Answer: Presentation: Admission to emergency clinics and nursing homes is considered by numerous patients and their relatives to be a scary occasion. A ceaseless time of strain and stress goes with relatives of the patients who is admitted to the clinic and is going under serious medicines. Be that as it may, the consideration gave in the emergency clinics and care setting is by human services experts, which guarantee safe practice. Consequently, it turns into a worry to the family members and relatives about how to deal with the change of care structure emergency clinics to homes (Slover 2016). This is mostly in light of the fact that they stay uncertain of the degree of care required by quiet and the degree of care, which they could give to patients. Thusly, scientists are of the feeling that human services experts like medical attendants and comparative others should take a functioning part being developed of legitimate release and care plan for the patient (Thoma and Waite 2017). They ought to likewis e teach the patient and relatives in legitimate manners with the goal that the odds of emergency clinic readmissions, clinical mistakes and others become less. The accompanying report ought to for the most part involve a consideration and release plan of a customer named Jim alongside how Jim and his significant other can grow better quality lives. The arrangement ought to be to such an extent that it considers all moral and legitimate commitments alongside a consideration practice that is socially equipped to the patient and his family. Release and care plan: A legitimate release and care plan guarantees that the human services experts have built up a strategy by which patients can be moved starting with one degree of care then onto the next degree of care effectively and securely. If there should arise an occurrence of convoluted patients like Jim, it is critical that the specialist in control ought to approve the release plan created by the medical caretaker. In the release plan of Jim, six significant angles should be checked by the medical caretaker. Those are: Qualified staff ought to appropriately assess Jim so as to think about his current condition. It is additionally critical to guarantee that his condition is sufficiently steady to head out back to home and is out of risk. The expert ought to attempt an appropriate conversation with the patient Jim and his relative Angela (little girl) to be certain that they are prepared to leave the expert consideration and had legitimate courses of action both intellectually, inwardly, monetarily and genuinely to deal with the patients. The expert ought to likewise guarantee that appropriate consideration arranging is led so the patient and his carer and relatives can lead the consideration and treatment of the patient required at home until he becomes solid truly and intellectually (Knier et al. 2015). The expert ought to likewise guarantee that the individual in question decides if the parental figure preparing or different sorts of help are significant or not. Here, it is perceived that Angelas child is as of now experiencing Autism Spectrum Disorder and her mom is experiencing COPD and cardiovascular breakdown. In this way, it is significant for Jim to apportion an expert carer who might take for him The following significant angle is Here, the expert would prescribe Angela to a home consideration office and other help associations from where she can organize carer support for her dad Jim. The following significant point is masterminding follow up arrangements and tests where soundness of Jim would be assessed for development. The consideration plan for Jim would depict three significant viewpoints: The primary part of the consideration plan would incorporate keeping the circulatory strain of the patient in line. It turns out to be critical for the guardian to screen the circulatory strain of the patient at a customary premise. Other significant things, which ought to be remembered by the relatives and the expert carer, are to utilize more salts in nourishments. Typically, specialists don't prescribe this to elderly individuals as it prompts increment of odds of cardiovascular breakdown. Be that as it may, since he is experiencing low circulatory strain, utilization of more salts won't bring about any such occurrences (Hird et al. 2015). Jim should drink more water as liquids increment blood volume and help in counteraction of parchedness. These are significant in rewarding hypotension. Numerous specialists additionally state that wearing of pressure stockings help in calming the torment and expanding of varicose veins (Burke et al. 2014). This would help in decreasing of the po oling of blood in veins. The carer ought to keep up a few drugs. Medications like Fludrocortsisone can be utilized. Besides, medicate like midodrine orvaten helps in rising circulatory strain levels in patients with hypotension. Eating little, low-carb suppers are significant, focusing on body positions is additionally significant. The second part of the consideration plan is to deal with the disease site that had occurred from the underlying CVC contamination. The high-hazard methodology after release like dressing changes, the injured site care and others should be finished by experts or the individuals who have legitimate wellbeing education (Douglas et al. 2014) at home. The patient, family and guardians ought to be educated about the abilities that would help in lessening the odds of further contamination. Jim was unpredictable beforehand and was attempting to move all cylinders which may have made disease. As contamination had occurred, appropriate dressing of twisted with spotless, washed or sterilized hands are significant and thusly full course of anti-microbials would be given to him so he is liberated from the disease (El amouri and Oniell 2014). It is found for the situation that state of Jim is delicate and simultaneously, his better half Amara is experiencing cardiovascular breakdown and COPD. In such condition, the attendant should attempt to connect with proficient guardians or social laborers who might be dealing with them two. Simultaneously, their little girl is additionally confronting issues with her child who is confronting ASD. In this way, the parental figure ought to be learned about the mindful intercessions of every one of the individuals referenced. They ought to help with the day by day exercises of life of both Jim and Amara at their home like washing, dressing, cleaning them, making beds and furnishing them with right prescriptions. In addition, the guardians in the home ought to likewise guide them and attempt to make them liberated from their enthusiastic torment through legitimate directing. Care ought to be taken with the goal that their girl no longer must be worried about her folks. The parental figu res ought to likewise guarantee hazard evaluation of both Jim and Amara and should ensure that they are presented to a protected situation liberated from any threat. In addition, both their eating routine ought to be dealt with. Moral and lawful contemplations and socially skilled consideration: Self-rule and nobility is one of the most significant moral standards of care. This standard holds the decision of the patient and his relatives to be of most extreme significance above everything else. Educated assent is one significant part where attendants should look for assent of the patient before applying mediations (Hong et al. 2014). A medical caretaker, not keeping the rule, may confront lawful commitment bringing about punishment, dropping of permit and comparative others other than hurting the poise of the patients. Jim had consistently been a devotee of the way that he would be a superior carer for his significant other Amara than any expert carer. In this way, he had consistently stepped up to the plate and deal with his significant other who is experiencing COPD and cardiovascular breakdown. In such an example, conflicting with him and driving him to take an expert assistance in home would hurt his respect and self-rule. It may hurt him genuinely causing him to feel th at he can no longer deal with his better half in home whom he adored to such an extent. Along these lines, this may open the medical caretaker to legitimate wrongdoing (Rumbold and Baylis 2016). In this manner, the medical attendant ought to follow the rule of usefulness and non-pernicious. The past rule implies taking the best consideration of the patient guaranteeing security in all mediations and the later methods those intercessions ought to be to such an extent that no damage or enduring happens to the patient. The medical attendant should think to serve Jim, Amara and Angela and in this way she ought to amenably attempt to cause the patient to comprehend the significance of an expert help at such time when the three individuals are intellectually and truly not steady to deal with one another. One significant part of the consideration plan would likewise include a psycho-social guiding for the patient and his better half Amara with the goal that they can dispose of the pressure s in regards to their money related conditions and their physical issues. The guardian or the social specialists at home ought to do this, as customers are not happy to go anyplace. Jim is unyielding of the way that he and his better half would not go to private consideration. Along these lines, the medical attendant ought to delicately address him and caused him to comprehend the significance of an expert parental figure in his treatment in his home. He ought to be made to get that in the event that he weights on himself to think about his significant other in such delicate condition, both of their wellbeing may corrupt. This may influence the strength of Angela likewise who is dealing with the circumstance alone adjacent to thinking about his child. Appropriate directing and portion of an expert parental figure who is master in care giving is important for Jim and Amaras wellbeing. Care ought to be taken that the patient and his better half ought not feel pressurized and comprehen d their circumstance. They ought to never feel that their nobility is influenced. They ought to be made to think consistently in an affable way. This would guarantee that soundness of the considerable number of individuals from the family would be out of risk (Gausvik et al. 2015). While giving consideration and guiding the patients, both the attendant who might be building up the consideration plan and the parental figure should be cautious that all the mediations referenced in the consideration plan would be given in a socially equipped way. They are from Greece and in this way they have social contrasts with that of the Australi Kristie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604712366639719036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251640022113381386.post-92182633633367251752020-08-22T02:34:00.001-07:002020-08-22T02:34:10.228-07:00Differences Between Spice And CMMI Information Technology EssayContrasts Between Spice And CMMI Information Technology Essay Programming quality is progressively turning into a need with developing number of firms reliant on IT foundation and strategic virtual products for their business forms. The capacity development model and SPICE have been the two most thorough models for programming process improvement that have brought about a vigorous framework for improving advancement process (Marshall, Mitchell 2004). A great deal of uses have been created with the utilization of such models. Notwithstanding, regardless of a great deal of contrasts between the two models, there has been little spotlight on the key contrasts between the two models. While the ability development model is the most popular programming process improvement, the ISO/IEC 15004 is a set-up of norms that are required to influence the constant evolvement of Software CMM (Paulk 1999). In this exposition, the fundamental point is accordingly to set out the essential and auxiliary contrasts between the two development models in SPICE and CMMI . Further, through diagrammatic portrayals, the paper attempts to drill down the key contrasts between the models. CMMI: The ability development model (all the more famously known as CMM) had its causes from a book distributed in 1989 by Watts Humphrey in his book Managing the Software Process. The fundamental subject behind the capacity development model coordinated (CMMI) is process improvement (Glazer et al 2008). It must be comprehended that CMMI is a procedure model and not a procedure standard. CMMI comprises of procedure situated exercises that can be utilized all things considered to accomplish the procedure region and business objectives of an association. CMMI rehearses are additionally intended to urge associations to utilize different procedure models dependent on the associations need and practices. Essential Attributes of CMMI: The capacity development model has certain essential traits related with it. It has been seen by Hoggerl M and Sehorz (2006) that procedure territory, objectives and practices are the three key ideas of CMMI. As expressed before, the CMMi is a rundown of pre-characterized forms that are expressed under CMMI. As per the creators (Hoggerl Serhorz), the CMMI comprises of 25 explicit procedure territories inside the improvement forms. Essential credits of CMMI as indicated by these analysts are consequently process the board, venture the executives and designing and backing (Hoggerl Sehorz 2006). There are five fundamental development levels characterized in the CMMI model. These are point by point in the table underneath Programming CMM Maturity Model Depiction 1. Introductory Programming forms described at this level are specially appointed and infrequently disordered. At this stage, not many procedures are characterized and the accomplishment of the procedures relies upon the individual endeavors and heroics 2. Repeatable The procedure the executives forms are characterized at this stage. They are fundamental in nature and are commonly gotten from before triumphs 3. Characterized The product procedure for both the administration and execution are characterized and are all around reported during this stage 4. Overseen Point by point measures for the assessment of the product forms 5. Enhancing Persistent improvement forms are done utilizing quantitative criticism from the procedure and from directing of imaginative thoughts Table 1. CMMI Maturity Stages Optional Attributes of CMMI: Inside the essential trait of venture the executives, the creators Hoggerl Sehorz (2006) recommend that there are a few procedures which are explicit in nature. These are alluded to as the auxiliary traits of CMMI. A portion of the basic auxiliary qualities incorporate arranging, observing, provider the board and group the executives. Inside procedure the executives as well, there are sure optional characteristics. Authoritative center, definition, preparing and development are a portion of the basic optional characteristics that can be set under the procedure the board basis. The designing area of the CMMI model has a ton of degree for upgrades. Along these lines, the optional properties under this area are essential to the procedure improvement. A portion of the auxiliary properties under the building segment incorporate necessity the executives, mix, confirmation and approval (Hoggerl Sehorz 2006). Inside the help area (essential property of CMMI), there are some optional traits a s well. These incorporate arrangement the executives, quality confirmation, choice investigation and authoritative condition (Hoggerl Sehorz 2006). The whole arrangement of qualities is better introduced in the composite highlights outline demonstrated as follows. For understanding a composite component outline, it must be noticed that the development of a product procedure is best comprehended in five unique levels. In spite of the fact that these levels change from association to association, they can even now be summed up as introductory, repeatable, characterized, oversaw and streamlined (M, Paulk. M, Konrad. S, Garcia.1995;M, Paulk.1999). During the underlying level, the procedures are not requested. During this stage the procedures are turbulent and for the most part rely on the individual endeavors. According to its name, the repeatable procedures rehashes itself; the achievement of prior procedures. Accordingly, Paulk et al (1999) states that the characterized development le vels in the entire procedure experience the measures approaches to satisfy the procedure. A legitimate archived game plan is one of the most significant perspectives in the fulfillment of a characterized development model. Be that as it may, the oversaw development models are tried quantitatively for the procedures and item quality (M, Paulk. M, Konrad. S, Garcia.1995; M, Paulk.1999). The upgraded development models are focused on advancement and persistent enhancements through criticism systems. A gander at the favorable circumstances and hindrances of CMMI model would be in accordance with the above conversations. Focal points of CMMI: CMMI has various advantages. As per Konrad, Shrum and Chrisis (2003), the CMMI model gives a decent inclusion to the normal item life cycle than some other procedure improvement items when they are utilized alone. In addition, CMMI can be incorporated with any of the other programming improvement models and can be actualized to give powerful functionalities. In spite of the fact that the fundamental focal point of CMMI was on item and administration designing, it was likewise worked to give endeavor wide procedure improvement (Chrissis, Konrad, and Shrum 2003). Burdens of CMMI: Despite the fact that CMMI gives a great deal of functionalities for powerful working, it is as yet difficult to execute inside associations. CMMI isn't a procedure; it is fairly the qualities characterized that ought to be available inside a perfect procedure. Along these lines, the issue with process improvement isn't that of a missing norm yet to actualize the standard in the point of view of the association (M, Niazi. D, Wilson, D, Zowghi.2003). Since CMMI doesn't give the genuine usage steps, it isn't prudent to use in specific situations. Graph 1. CFD For CMMI With such a concise portrayal of CMMI, the ideas about the model are clarified. The following segment of the paper talks about the SPICE or the ISO/IEC 15504 procedure development model. Flavor: (ISO/IEC 15504): The SPICE model otherwise called the ISO/IEC 15504 is a rising worldwide standard on programming process evaluation that characterizes the quantity of programming designing procedures and scales them to quantify their ability (Emam, Birk 1999). The fundamental distinction between the CMMI and SPICE is that while CMMI is a model comprising of steps that may be required in a perfect programming process; SPICE is a standard for programming process usage that should be followed. The developing ISO/IEC 15504 global standard is an endeavor made to fit the current evaluation of models that are in the regular use. It is an European model that depends on the quantitative score of appraisal related with the exhibition of the association or the task (Emam Birk 1999). A product procedure evaluation (SPA) gives a quantitative score that mirrors the associations or ventures usage of the prescribed procedures as characterized in the appraisal model. In this way, the more number of best practices th at are received the more higher the quantitative score is relied upon to be. This score got from the benchmark current usage gives an ideal structure to settling on process improvement choices and furthermore fills in as a methods for following improvement endeavors. Properties of SPICE: Zest model depends on five distinct procedures. These procedures were made in various nationalities and became acknowledged universally. The five procedures are client provider, building, supporting, the executives and association. Every one of these procedures has a capacity level on which it is stamped quantitatively. These levels start from 0 to 5 running from fragmented procedure (0) to an improved procedure (5). These procedures are additionally stamped utilizing what is called as procedure traits. It is the base reason of the product procedure evaluation that the resultant quantitative scores are the indicators of the exhibition of the undertaking or the association that is surveyed. Taking all things together, there are nine characteristics in SPICE. As with CMMI, the nine procedure qualities are connected with the five procedures. The nine properties are Procedure Performance Execution Management Work Product Management Procedure Definition Procedure Deployment Procedure Measurement Procedure Control Procedure Innovation Processà Optimization. Like CMMI, the ISO/IEC 15004 has five procedure zones. These are known as levels. Each key procedure zone is portrayed as far as its key practices that add to fulfilling its objectives and are allotted to create normal highlights. These key exercises portray the particular capacity of the framework and exercises that add to create the best usage and organization of the key procedure region (Paulk 1999). These five procedure territories are depicted in the table underneath Level Core interest Key Process regions 5 Advancing Co Kristie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604712366639719036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251640022113381386.post-7358887615677441472020-07-26T02:16:00.001-07:002020-07-26T02:16:02.718-07:00Startup Hubs Around the World Stockholm Startup Hubs Around the World Stockholm Swedenâs capital, Stockholm, is the countryâs largest city with just over 2 million people. © Shutterstock.com | Scanrail1Wondering how Stockholm made it onto the list? Read on to investigate how 1) the location, 2) the tax incentives, 3) the legal incentives, 4) investors, 5) local resources, and 6) specialization of the city have propelled it into the top ten startup hubs in the world, along with 7) startups to watch.LOCATIONPerched on the edge of the Baltic Sea along the southeast coast of Sweden, Stockholm has captured the attention of the startup market and drawn entrepreneurs to the historic city. Established in 1252, Stockholm has a lengthy history of innovation and invention, all of which has propelled the city to its current condition as a startup leader. How does the location of the city affect their standing in the startup rankings?Geographical BenefitsA collection of fourteen islands along the southern edge of Sweden, Stockholm is the epicenter of Swedish life as the financial, cultural and economic center of the country. With the countryâs largest population and a thriving economy, it is easy to see why people are drawn to the city. By capitalizing on the geographical benefits of the area, the city has been able to maximize their surroundings to increase the appeal of the capital.Connected by an intricate system of roads, bridges and tunnels, the city has spent millions building new modes of transportation, and is set to begin construction on the worldâs most expensive commuter travel train in 2017. Called âThe Green Trainâ, the environmentally conscious system of public transportation is designed to improve the efficiency of the current train system and increase the capacity of the cityâs tracks. Their extensive investment into planning, designing and building these avenues of transport benefit the entrepreneur who often needs to rely on public transportation, especially when living in a region far from home. The city was designed (both by nature and by city planners) with 30% of the city as water, 30% of the city is green spac e and the remaining 40% is living space for the approximately 2 million people who call Stockholm home. This guarantees opportunities for the entrepreneur to be able to enjoy the beauty of the city, but also creates a housing crisis. With housing at a premium, rents (especially those properties located in the downtown area) are particularly high causing residents to seek residences outside the city limits. For the entrepreneur, inexpensive housing is a must; budgets are stretched and incomes are often limited, so finding inexpensive housing and office space is a difficult task. The development of a community for entrepreneurs to share workspace as well as personal quarters is essential for a city that wishes to continue to draw talented workers to their city.Advantages of choosing the cityPerhaps one of the most impressive accomplishments of Stockholm is their long range planning and foresight. With the intention of creating a connected community, the city destroyed streets and began installing a fiber optic network in the 1990s. Detailed in their ten year plan, the intention of the city was to be able to provide a network of communication to every household in the city, including the public housing section. Completed in 2011, the city boasts one of the most comprehensive energy/communication systems in the world. They recently unveiled their vision for the city by the year 2030, a city that will be âthe center of internationally competitive innovation regionâ. Selecting Stockholm as the headquarters for a startup allows a company to be a part of the innovation and design that Sweden is known for, and puts them in the middle of an exciting plan for Swedenâs future. There are several advantages to selecting Stockholm as the startup location for a company, along with the long-term planning of the cityâs leaders. One such advantage is their commitment to higher education. Stockholm is home to over a dozen institutes for higher learning, including the larges t technical institute in Sweden and various other schools including fine arts universities and more. The presence of these assorted colleges helps to create a thriving, creative community that is necessary to sustain a growing entrepreneur culture. In addition, it serves to provide companies with highly trained and skilled workers.TAX INCENTIVESFrom an outsiderâs perspective, Stockholm seems an unlikely location to establish a startup for many reasons, including the lack of tax incentives. Sweden has the second highest personal income tax rates in the world (28% in 2013), and a corporate tax rate of almost 25% as well. Despite the high taxes, Stockholm has had astonishing success â" over the last ten years, they have had at least one billion dollar company come out of the country per year.Entrepreneurs (or their employees) who hold stock options in a company (a common startup practice) are taxed under the income rate when the startup is sold, or the stock options are exercised. T his creates a disadvantage for the employee: the âbenefitâ is less of an attraction when there is a heavy tax bill attached to it. By removing the stock options as a benefit, entrepreneurs are often unable to compete with larger, established companies who can lure talented workers with higher salaries. While the high tax rates have not stopped Stockholm from bringing the world some of the most recent tech phenomenon companies (Spotify and Mojang â" the creator of Minecraft, for example), it does lead one to wonder how many companies would spring up if the tax rate was less prohibitive. Additionally, a noticeable trend in Stockholm is the relocation of companies out of Sweden once they have passed the initial stages of startup. Perhaps a lower taxable rate would encourage/allow these companies to stay in Stockholm?LEGAL INCENTIVESIn recent years, Stockholm has begun to change some of the unfriendly business practices and policies that have been in place, and replace them with mor e innovative guidelines. The process to establish a company, file the necessary paperwork and be up and running has been streamlined into one convenient location and takes about three weeks. While this is not the fastest timeline, it is one of the most efficient and simple to use.The startup community is beginning to become an important part of the culture in Stockholm, giving entrepreneurs a voice in policies and procedures that can directly affect the future innovation of the city. To continue to develop as a startup hub, Swedenâs government must begin to develop a plan of attracting, and keeping, entrepreneurs and their companies. Offering legal incentives for entrepreneurs would be an additional tool to use when enticing a company to set up its headquarters in Stockholm. At present, there is a growing community of business officials who are pushing for the development of an entrepreneur zone in the city that would continue to encourage startups. A collaborative effort to increa se incentives may be successful in promoting ideas such as fast-tracked entrepreneur visas, multi-zoned areas that allow for startups to work out of their home without penalty or the development of other startup friendly policies.INVESTORSAttracting investors to Stockholm is an issue that must be addressed. Investors in the startup markets are not quite as heavily taxed as individuals â" the government just introduced a new tax policy specifically for investors. Under the new plan, investors in small companies (where startups typically fall) are eligible for a credit of up to 50% of the cost of purchasing shares. The deduction has a limit of $100,000 annually and a low lifetime cap of under $1,000,000. For the average startup which relies on venture capital, these investor tax credits, while nice, are not sufficient to be of real value.A sizeable drawback to the startup market in Stockholm is the noticeable lack of angel funding available, and the reluctance of Swedish companies to invest in entrepreneurship. While the perception of startups is changing for the better, the Swedish culture has historically frowned on standing out from the crowd, making wealthy business owners less likely to flaunt their success by investing heavily. This creates a gap in funding and a clear missing link in the startup attractiveness, causing companies have to seek funding outside of Stockholm. The first collaborative effort of the Stockholm startup market has begun to attract attention, as well as the success of Spotify, drawing international investors to Sweden. International entrepreneurship conferences are bringing in both investors and innovators. It is hoped that the attention from outside investors will motivate national investors to begin to invest their money into the local startup market.LOCAL RESOURCESWithin Stockholm, the quiet elements of the city that have attracted entrepreneurs for over a decade are beginning to be noticed. In addition, the city is establishing n ew resources that will solidify their position as one of the worldâs leading startup hubs. One resource that is pivotal in Stockholm is the new SUP46 (StartUP People of Sweden) community. This entrepreneur resource has created a startup community within the city specifically to encourage and motivate innovation. With their headquarters in the middle of downtown, they have space for co-working, events and inspiration that is open to all. Modeled after the famous Google campus, they are providing entrepreneurs a place to capitalize on the Swedish ideology of sharing resources and ideas.IMAGURU recently named the three top coworking spaces in Stockholm â" identifying locations that provide encouragement, support and collaboration for entrepreneurs. These locations offer standard office services (copying, printing, etc), time banking opportunities, meeting areas and technology tools to help the startup become successful.Another resource that is helping to drive the Stockholm startup m arket is the governmentâs priority on innovation, spending almost 4% of their Gross Domestic Profit (GDP) on research and development. With government support, the entrepreneur culture will be embraced and celebrated. Establishing a focus on innovative design and development demonstrates the commitment that the government is making to help Stockholm succeed.SPECIALIZATIONThe startup market in Stockholm, while not new, is still a relatively recent development. The fields of entrepreneurship are wide open for exploration by startups, but there are a few areas where Stockholm has indicated an interest.Stockholm has been gradually shifting from an industrial society to a service-based society. This change in the countryâs identity can also be seen in the type of startups that have sprung up in the city â" a high percentage of them are service based. This shift towards service based specialties can be seen in the cityâs focus on life sciences, gaming and healthcare. By developing d igital solutions for healthcare applications, the startup market in Stockholm has the potential to revolutionize the healthcare industry around the world. Using cutting edge technology, along with innovative thinking and problem solving, developers are finding new ways to improve healthcare systems for both medical professionals and patients.Gaming is another primary field of innovation in Stockholm that has the potential to be a world-changer. The global success of Minecraft set the stage for the innovative possibilities that can come from Stockholm, and entrepreneurs are determined to repeat their success. With technical institutes located in the city, as well as a growing number of gaming studios, qualified programmers are becoming easy to find. The pursuit of scientific endeavors has made its way into the startup market, with the development of tools to assist in the study of life sciences. Finding new ways to study the processes of life by combining technology and innovation has the potential to impact not only the science community, but the healthcare industry, the pharmaceutical industry and others.Finding the cityâs specialization in the early stages of its growth may be a bit challenging, but the principles that guide the development of a startup hub are the same: when entrepreneurs can work in a community that is thriving and creative, amazing things happen. By establishing a solid community for startups, Stockholm is laying the foundation for their future plans of becoming an innovative leader.STARTUPS TO WATCHLifesum: Recently launched in Europe, Lifesum is a mobile personal health app that allows the user to track their daily activities. Historical Events that Impacted Contact Improvisation Dance has evolved greatly throughout the centuries. It began with ballet and has led up to contact improvisation. This form of dance begun in the early 1970s and was started by a man named Steve Paxton and a group of postmodern dancers from New York City. Contact improvisation is a partnering form of dance and known as the art of moving spontaneously with a group or another person. This form of dance does not require the exact set of traditional skills of other dance form, it doesnââ¬â¢t have a technique that could be studied, and it is practiced in order to accomplish the highest potential. Contact improvisation came at a great time period, which of course was the 70s. Theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Although the Watergate Scandal was an important event during this time period I donââ¬â¢t think it greatly affected contact improvisation. Another important historical event that occurred during this time period was the end of the Cold War. In 1975, under President Gerald Ford the US joined the USSR and thirty-three other countries to sign the Helsinki Accords that each member of nations vowed to respect human rights and boundaries. I think the whole end of the Cold War greatly affected this dance. I think by using contact improvisation it sort of represented peopleââ¬â¢s feelings better by being able to interact with each other. So by using contact improvisation I think the dancers were able to get their point across to the audience better. Therefore, the end of the Cold War was probably very important for contact improvisation and expressing yourself. Finally, the Vietnam War was another important historical event going on in the 1970s. When Nixon was president he sent American troop strength in Vietnam. He also set up a program of Vietnamization, which was decreasing the number of U.S. troops, offering only advice and assistance. The U.S. troops eventually returned from Vietnam but the U.S. did not stop with its involvement in Vietnam. Marcus Engel described his hardships and struggles after he became blind in his book, After Thisâ⬠¦An Inspirational Journey for All the Wrong Reasons. The book begins with Engel mentioning his college life and how he was excited to be going back home for vacation. While he was with his friends he got into a bad car accident that left him blind. The rest of the book tells his emotional life changing story of how he learned to accept his blindness and to do daily tasks. Some doctors made him feel like he was an object rather than a human, which made him feel powerless and angry. Others, like nurses and doctors, made him feel like his old self again. Dennis Fuller, a speech pathologist, who was there to teach him how to speak again, was one of the doctors that Engel mentioned with respect and admiration. The doctor addressed him as ââ¬Ëdudeââ¬â¢ rather than ââ¬ËMr. Engelââ¬â¢ and he talked with him about football and joked with him. Simple things like that made Engel feel happy and pleased. ââ¬Å"Humor, voice, respect, and a life lesson I shall never forget; all from one person who probably never realized what a profound impact he was makingâ⬠(Engel, 2006, p. 132). Although the healthcare providers were doing their jobs, some treated him with pity and as an object. Just by addressing him with his name or asking him simple questions about himself made him feel like he was normal and a part of society. Others that influenced his stay at the hospital were two nurses, Barb and Rick. Barb became close to him really quickly by the way she addressed him and treated him. Rick and Engel became friends by conversing about their stories of growing up. The one common aspect both nurses had was that they treated Engel as if he wasnââ¬â¢t blind. You must make specific reference to ââ¬Å"The Secret River. â⬠One of Australiaââ¬â¢s finest writers Kate Grenville wrote The Secret River which challenges traditional gender roles of women in the early nineteenth century London and Australia. We will write a custom essay sample on Secret River or any similar topic only for you Order Now The novel has challenged the female stereotype in a patriarchal society through the strong female character of Sal Thornhill. Sal has been the brains of her family through their tough times in London and their settlement in Sydney. Sal is the wife of William Thornhill, a convict. The memory of how the gentry treated Thornhill pushed him to work himself up into the foreign land of Australia to become like that gentleman he had served once back in London, in the water of Thamesââ¬âthe one with the power and the one who looked down on him who represents the working class. His determination to set off a space for himself in the foreign land eventually placed him and some of the settlers in direct opposition to the Aboriginal people by their desire to finally have control on their own lives. The use of a wide range of narrative devices in The Secret River has vividly taken the readers back to the nineteenth century where power and wealth determines a manââ¬â¢s position in the society. Sal Thornhill has been constructed in The Secret River as a strong female character who challenges traditional gender roles in the early nineteenth centuryââ¬âmainly when women were biologically, socially and intellectually inferior. Although Sal was raised in a quite comfortable lifestyle, she still has managed to cope with the tragic events in her life as a mother and as a wife. We see through Thornhillââ¬â¢s limited omniscient point of view that Sal would have to ââ¬Å"brighten herself upâ⬠because they both knew that Sal would have to offer her service in the cold streets of London to support her familyââ¬â¢s financial needs, while Thornhill was convicted for theft. Salââ¬â¢s staggering sacrifices did not just end in London. Her character even became stronger when they settled in a place that nothing Thornhill had ever seenââ¬âwhere ââ¬Å"trees were tortured formless thingsâ⬠that looked half dead and when Christmas was during the hot days of summer. Women in that time were normally perceived as housekeepers and child-bearers. However, Sal did not just take care of her family emotionally and physically, but financially as well ââ¬Å"At the end of each week Sal would count up the takings, from Thornhillââ¬â¢s work on the water and from her own selling liquor, and hide them away in a box. â⬠which is evident through the descriptive language used. As a migrant myself, I understood Salââ¬â¢s attitude towards the new environment that she was in. It wasnââ¬â¢t a part of her plan, but she accepted the circumstances and lived with it half-heartedly. Although her heart was always reminding her of ââ¬ËHomeââ¬â¢, her mind and body still endured the harsh conditions, all for her family. It wasnââ¬â¢t the usual approach of women back in the nineteenth century to stand up for her family instead of the husband. However, Salââ¬â¢s character was constructed to challenge the representation of women during that time by being the provider and the child-bearer all at once. Sal, her family, and the other settlers encountered the ââ¬Ëothernessââ¬â¢ once they arrived in Sydneyââ¬âwhich had two different representations as a race in The Secret River. Australia was not an empty land when the Thornhills and the white settlers arrived. They were not expecting people living in that type of place for thousands of years. These people were as strange as the place through the settlersââ¬â¢ perception. There was one who hung about the Thornhillsââ¬â¢ hut and entertained them, dressed only with a faded-pink bonnet on his head in trade for food and a sip of rum. They called him Scabby Bill who represents the ââ¬Ëvisibleââ¬â¢ natives. His drunkenness and his appearance symbolises the detrimental impact of colonialism to the Aboriginals. The other sort of native were the ââ¬Ëinvisibleââ¬â¢ ones who stayed away from the settlement. They were represented through Long Jackââ¬â¢s strong character. The settlers did not initially affect them, but they saw them as ââ¬Å"snakes or the spiders, not something that could be guarded againstâ⬠which symbolises as a threat to their dreams. The blacks, on the other hand had a different view of what the settlers referred to as ââ¬Ëstealingââ¬â¢. Their belief is that nobody owns the land, not them, not the settlers. This clash of beliefs has lead to the novelââ¬â¢s climax, the massacre, where the ââ¬Ëinvisibleââ¬â¢ became ââ¬Ëvisibleââ¬â¢. The way Thornhill addresses the natives and were given English names symbolises Thornhillââ¬â¢s attitude being Eurocentric. Thornhill did not want to be engaged to the natives, but he himself implanted the European traditions on them. The settlers did not have the same beliefs towards the blacks, just like the natives were to them which also lead to two different representationsââ¬âone that respects the ââ¬Ëothernessââ¬â¢ and one that doesnââ¬â¢t. A huge contrast in the characters was made in the novel between Blackwood and Smasher. Blackwood was described as a huge deep and silent man who had ââ¬Å"a rough dignity about himâ⬠. He believed in the concept of ââ¬Å"give a little, take a littleâ⬠in terms of dealing with the blacks. While Smasherââ¬â¢s appearance was constructed as ââ¬Å"a naked-looking face without eyebrowsâ⬠and always craves for attention that is evident through his dialogue that he had ââ¬Å"not seen the event (rage) personallyâ⬠but spreads the story anyway. He believed in the concept of ââ¬Ëwhips and bitersââ¬â¢. There was no single respect that was given to the blacks from Smasher. Of all the characters, Blackwood has the greatest knowledge and appreciation of the Aboriginals and even lived with an Aboriginal woman and had a child. Smasher did live with one as well, but he referred to her as his ââ¬Å"black bitch. â⬠Although the settlers had the same hopes of finding a better life in Australia, they still ended up on two different paths due to the contrast on their attitude towards the Aboriginals. William Thornhillââ¬â¢s character was not constructed consistently in The Secret River as his attitudes and values towards Australia and the Aboriginals changed throughout the novel. Through Thornhillââ¬â¢s limited omniscient point of view, we sympathise with him by the way the gentry treated him as a waterman in the lower class. He had worked hard but his efforts were not appreciated, thus, pushed him to steal that lead him in his deportation to Australia. Thornhill and the majority of the convicts found a hope for a better life in Australia. It was what they have always longed forââ¬âto own a land, to finally have something they can call their own. Thornhillââ¬â¢s change n values was revealed through his dialogue, ââ¬Å"Forgetting your manners are you, Dan Oldfieldâ⬠he said to an old friend who he chose as one his servants. He became hungry for power and authority when he had a taste on what it was like to be on top of the others: on top of his fellow settlers, on top of the Aboriginals. Thornhill has spoken to the Aboriginals the way the gentry did to him ââ¬Å"Old Boy, he started. He fancied the sound of that. â⬠Thornhill and some of settlers saw the blacks as a hindrance to their one last chance to achieve their ultimate dream, like when Sagitty suggested to ââ¬Å"get them before they get us. He has been successful in this goal but behind the high walls of his ââ¬Ëvillaââ¬â¢, was an unfulfilled William Thornhill after losing his friends and ultimately, his son Dick, who sympathise to the indigenous way of life. He became like the gentry, but not quite. He possessed the land, the house, the servants, but not the respect. The scars of his past were embedded on his nameââ¬âWilliam Thornhill, who was once a waterman, illiterate and an ex-convict. The Secret River has diverse representations of gender, class and race that have been successfully constructed in each character through the use of narrative devices. Sal represents those women who stood up for their family, in spite of the tagged inferiorities built by the society through the years especially in the nineteenth century and the earlier times. Scabby Bill and Long Jack represent the two different approach of their race on colonisation of the Europeans. Their values differ, just as the settlersââ¬â¢ views had towards them. Blackwood amongst all the others respects the Aboriginals, while Smasher had no heart for these people and treated them like animals. William Thornhill as the novelââ¬â¢s protagonist did not have a certain representation. His whole character was constructed based on his life back in London that resulted in a change of values as he found himself flourishing in his new ââ¬ËHomeââ¬â¢. This novel lets the readers engage themselves in each of the representations effectively through Thornhillââ¬â¢s limited omniscient point of view. We tend to judge the differences in gender, in every class and in every race through what the society has already built on people as time goes by. However, Kate Grenville gave us a wider view of how each of these people ended up the way they were before, and the way they are in present time. As a migrant myself, I can compare myself with Sal, above all the characters. Migration wasnââ¬â¢t a part of our plan, but if that leads us to a better life, why not endure the circumstances? At the end of the day, every sacrifice and effort will be worth it. However, I believe that I will never end up the way Thornhill hadââ¬â a wealthy man with a ââ¬Ëvillaââ¬â¢, without a peace of mind. A number of books of high literary quality were published, many displaying a welcome and honest effort on the part of authors to 'tell it like it is' about the drug scene, the generation gap, sex, and draft resistance. The alienation common to many teenagers today is sensitively probed in Vadim Frolov's What It's All About. Although set in the Soviet Union, this story of a 14-year-old boy, seeking the truth about life, love, and sex but surrounded by narrow-minded, closemouthed adults, is universal and compelling. Alienation also figures in two other titles? The Pigman, Paul Zindel's bittersweet story of an iconoclastic boy and girl and the joy and hurt they bring an old man, and Count Me Gone, Annabel and Edgar Johnson's convincing portrait of an 18-year-old's estrangement from his parents, his elder brother, and his suffocating suburban background. Anita MacRae Feagles' Me, Cassie is a witty and irreverent novel abou t a girl growing up in the midst of a staid family and her encounters with two Moroccan exchange students and a pop singing group. Touching on the themes of hope and compassion, there are Maia Wojciechowska's memorable novel A Single Light, a parable about the need to love and be loved in return, woven around a deaf and dumb Spanish girl and a priceless statue of the Christ Child, and James Forman's The Traitors, a harshly honest chronicle of the agonies of a family fighting to save its town and church in Nazi Germany. Free Essays on Russia The Rise of Russian Anti-Imperialism After the breakup of the Soviet Union, many observers have wondered how post Cold War Russia would react. Years of Soviet ineptitude in economics and gross overspending in the military have put Russia in a fiscal quagmire. While some clamor for a more dominant Russia, there are greater internal forces that think Russia needs to build economic stability and then the natural order of things should take care of itself. In the article ââ¬Å"The Rise of Russian Anti-Imperialism,â⬠Henry Hale describes a Russia on the brink of financial ruin in 1998. They had suffered an economic collapse that year and he argues that invariably changed Russiaââ¬â¢s domestic and foreign policy as well. Little did he know that a strong leader was waiting in the wings to take over for Yeltsin and bring stability to the government and slow down economic reform. Russia has been beset internally with graft and corruption. The failure of the Russian government in the past to reign in these forces has hampered its integration into the world economy. Recently, however, President Putin has begun to consolidate his power and arrested Mikhail Khodorkovsky for fraud and tax evasion. He is trying to send a signal to the rest of the profiteers that the Russian government will not stand by and watch others take advantage of her baby steps towards free markets. There have been attempts to reintegrate the old Soviet Union into a cohesive economic zone. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the former republics agreed to form a Commonwealth of Independent States, however that quickly dissolved. In early 1993, there was an attempt at regaining control of many of the former Soviet Republics that still wanted to use the Russian Ruble as their currency. This tactic was called the Ruble Zone. However, those efforts collapsed because the other republics were trying to use this Zone as a hidden subsidy and Russian economists in the governmen... LinkedIn is consistently rated in the top 3 resources for job listings on the web (after Indeed and Glassdoor). Surveys have concluded that of all jobs sourced from social media, 89% of those are sourced from LinkedIn. So you canââ¬â¢t affordà notà to be making the most of LinkedInââ¬â¢s job search features. This past week, LinkedIn posted an article about how to be a job search Ninja. Ive expanded on what LinkedIn shared: Here are my latest and greatest tips on getting the best possible results out of your LinkedIn job search. 1. Turn On Open Candidates Your first consideration when actively looking for a new position on LinkedIn is whether you would like to keep your job search confidential. The Open Candidates feature allows you to signal privately to recruiters that you are open to new opportunities. To turn this feature on, click on the Jobs tab and then on Update career interests. Flip the switch to On. But dont stop there. Update your preferences to search for jobs based on factors like geographic location, full-time or part-time, and company name. Open Candidates gives you access to hundreds of thousands of recruiters. Itââ¬â¢s available in the U.S., U.K. Canada and Australia on both the desktop and mobile versions of LinkedIn, and there are plans to roll out the program globally. Ready to get started?à Log in here to change your settings. For more on the Open Candidates feature,à click here. 2. Use the Jobs Tab Under the Jobs tab, you will automatically see a list of jobs that might interest you, based on the keywords in your profile. I recommend that if you are a job seeker, you click on the Jobs tab daily to view LinkedIns recommendations. From this vantage point, you can filter your results further to meet your qualifications. To get to the available filters, click the blue Search button and youll see a list of criteria by which you can narrow your search, such as industry, skill level, and company size. (Searching by salary is only available to Premium members.) With all these options, you are in the drivers seat as you choose which jobs meet your specifications. 3. Utilize the Search Bar When you click on ââ¬Å"Jobsâ⬠in the top menu, you will immediately see a Search bar. This is your window into the positions that interest you. When I searched using the Jobs Search bar for ââ¬Å"Account Executive Digital Mediaâ⬠within 100 miles of Madison, WI, heres some of what came up: Whatà type of job are you looking for? Determine the search terms that are most relevantà forà you, à enter them in the search bar, and LinkedIn will provide a list of current positions which you can fine tune by location, company, date posted, job function, industry, experience level and title. Apply to the ones that best meet your goals and skill set! 4. Create a Job Alert If you want to conduct the same search regularly, click on Create job alert in the upper right-hand corner and you will be given an option to receive an alert daily or weekly for jobs that match your criteria. You can then conduct your saved search with one click from your Jobs page. Once you save a job, it will appear in the right-hand column: Click on a position that interests you, and you will see a job description, a count of the number of people who have applied through LinkedIn, and, most important, a list of your connections who work there. Be sure to reach out to those connections to ask questions about the company and their experience working there. Maybe they even know someone who can help you. Many companies have incentive programs for their employees to refer good candidates, so you might be doing your connection a favor by contacting them! 5. Apply, Track Share LinkedIn allows you to apply directly from a company website, and to save any jobs of interest for later (but be careful, they could disappear at any time). You can view a list of all the jobs youve applied for from the Jobs tab at any time (under Applied Jobs). For more on how to work with Applied Jobs, see the LinkedIn Help article,à Viewing Jobs Youve Applied for on LinkedIn. If you see a job that is perfect for someone else in your network, use LinkedIn social media sharing buttons to spread the word. 6. Let Companies Know Youre Interested One way to let a company knowà you are interested in working for them is to follow the company on LinkedIn. Here are several advantages to following a company, courtesy ofà WiserUTips: More visibility. Representatives at your target companies can see who their followers are. By being on theirà followersà list, youââ¬â¢re telling companies that you are interested in them and youââ¬â¢re also getting your skills and/or services in front of them. Staying up-to-date. View all recent updates about your target companies, including company news, job openings, new hires, and recent employee departures. Making an impression.à Like and comment on posts about your target companies. Making connections.à Review ââ¬Å"How Youre Connected.â⬠Click the ââ¬Å"See allâ⬠link to view 1st, 2ndà andà 3rdà degreeà connections at the organization, as well as former employees.à Use this knowledge to ask key people to help you land a job or make the sale. Showing your support. Providing recommendations for a companys products and services makes the company look good on LinkedIn and shows them that you care about their success. Hiring entities that use LinkedIn Recruiter can view those who follow their company. They will then consider you a warm lead and most likely check out your profile. You can follow up to 1,000 companies! The downside is that all your connections will also be able to see what companies you follow; so if you have anà ummm, overprotective boss, be careful about how you use this feature. 7. Use the Group Jobs Feature Another key location for potential jobs is the Job Conversations in your groups. After logging into a group page, click on the Jobs tab and you will see additional positions not advertised in the official (paid) Jobs database. From there you can explore and apply to specific jobs that interest you. 8. Use the Mobile LinkedIn Job Search App Keep up with your job search on the go with the mobile version of LinkedIn Jobs. Dont let that job offer sit in your inbox for hours while youre out networking! For Android users: Click here to get LinkedInà ® Job Search App for Android (Google Play) and log in to your account. Tap the grid icon in the upper right corner. From the sliding menu, select Job Search. From there you can search for new job opportunities, save your searches, create job alerts and apply. From the menu at the bottom, select ââ¬Å"Activityâ⬠to see your recently viewed jobs, save searches, and keep track of where youââ¬â¢ve applied. You can sync your phone with your LinkedIn account for a seamless experience across platforms. For iOS (iPhone) users: Click here to get the LinkedInà ® Job Search App for iPhone (iTunes). iPhone users enjoy additional amenities with the Job Search App for iPhone. I know you said yes, join me as we address the nitty-gritties of this wonderful place. Talking of location, my house is perfectly located in a highly and rocky ground. It stands tall besides neatly pruned cypress trees. Located at the northwest side of the homestead, my house distinguishes itself from the rest of the houses in the neighborhood. The rear door faces the south while the front towards the north. Wind movements that usually moves from the east towards the west cannot find its way into the house. In addition, a perimeter electric fence ensures that the house is fully protected against any invasion by malicious individuals. The neighborhood is very serene. Within the region, electricity is guaranteed. However, when there is no electricity there are automatic generators; this ensures that the house is continually lit. I love the location of my house, it just fits perfectly to be a dream house that I have admired over the years. The architectural design is out of this world. It is a two-storied mansion with three bedrooms, a table room, a meditation room, three washroom areas, and a kitchen. The clean finishing and the perfect match of the colors say it all. From outside, the green compound with cypress trees matches very well with shades of green painting in the exterior section of the house. On the inside, the house is sparkling white. The outside door is automated; a stranger cannot get access without a request. The kitchen and the bedrooms have a perfect wood finishing that gives the aesthetic appeal of the house. On the middle of the house is a wooden staircase; a neatly cut wooden trunk perfectly fits at the middle and connects the upper floor from the ground floor. The trunk gives the house a natural look, which makes it very appealing. The table room is one that will impress. The report reviews FASB standards for valuing inventory, at or below market value, which the accountant must do. Supervision of inventory is something that falls into accountantsââ¬â¢ responsibilities and job duties, along with when and where to capitalize interest on construction projects being done by the firm. Perhaps the most important accountancy duty covered in the current investigation, however, remains recording gain or loss on asset disposalââ¬âaccuracy in this accounting duty is integral to the firmââ¬â¢s success, as well as good reputation. The report proposes the straight-line, declining-balance, and sum-of-years approaches, while giving real world examples of equations which may be used in this most important part of accounting. It is also important to consider the importance of adjusting goodwill for impairment in a way that can provide the company with valuable information relative to future investment planning, in order to again, optimize profits and revenues for the firm. The current report has looked at why an accountant would require various documentation from a client, and has also shown real world demonstrations of equations used for recording gain or loss on asset disposal (one of the most important required tasks for accountants, and one which can be done in a variety of ways). The report has also looked into issues of adjusting lower cost of market inventory, capitalizing interest on building construction, and adjusting goodwill for impairment. Each of these functions has its separate use for accountancy, and these various uses form a holistic picture of what may be expected from on-the-job performance tasks. Some of the tasks, such as adjusting inventory, may be very long and complex, depending on the depth and age of the companyââ¬â¢s inventory stocks. The accountant must present these Kristie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604712366639719036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251640022113381386.post-84015629853297693532020-01-25T11:41:00.001-08:002020-01-25T11:41:03.332-08:00Reflective Essay on Music EducationReflective Essay on Music Education Andrew Nguyen My name is Andrew Nguyen, and Im a sophomore at Golden West College. Im 19 years old, and my major is business administration. For my online class experience, this is my second time taking an online course. My first time was on this years intersession, and I took an American Government course, but it was not that easy. There was too much reading to do, and theres not enough time for studying since intersession classes last for 4 weeks. In the end, I earned a good grade for my effort, and Im hoping that Ill do the same for this class. It taught me about how I should manage my time effectively when Im not inside the classroom, and that I shouldnt procrastinate from doing any readings and assignments. To be honest, Im not exactly a music player. Im more of a listener than a player. I played an instrument before, but I wasnt playing a song. When I was little, I remember myself tapping the keyboards on an electronic piano, listening to random notes, but I didnt have a chance to properly l earn how to play an instrument. However, I taught myself how to play the guitar when I was in high school; unfortunately, I was unsuccessful. There was a lot of complicated information to know about playing music, such as chords and melody, and its overwhelming to memorize it all. Also, I couldnt properly play the instrument because I need to know about the parts of the guitar, so I can control playing better. The problem about playing an instrument is that I kept relying on being perfect, and I just give up easy. For now, I just listen to any songs for relaxation, and I noticed how the song works from beginning to end and the hidden rhythms of the song. Because of my lack of knowledge on music, I thought that taking this class would give me a head start to know about music theory. Ive been listening to popular songs for a long time, and I thought that I could apply my basic knowledge on songs to this class, so I can critically listen to how music works. There are two things I would know by the end of the course. The first one is to know how to read sheet music. It was hard to read because there were so many complex patterns on the sheet music, and its not easy for an average musician. If I took this class, maybe theres a section about understanding the melody or other parts of the sheet music, so I can use that knowledge to learn better on playing an instrument. The second one is to know about the music history. I want to know more about how they developed different methods on crafting the song, so I can use examples from my songs to know how it matches their methods. The song that sounds like a binary form would be Somnus, composed by Yoko Shimomura and sung by Aundrea L. Hopkins. It is the theme song from a best-selling video game, Final Fantasy XV. The title is Latin for sleep, and like the title, the lyrics are also Latin. A binary form has two sections, in the form AB or AABB, that each section repeats the melody, and this song happens to fit into this category. At first, the song opens with a piano melody in a minor pitch. Then, the vocalist sang the Latin lyrics, presenting a theme that could be recognized later. In the second stanza, the song repeats the same melody, but the lyrics changed and the violin and cello can be heard as a harmony. The statement for this song tells the story that the world plunged into darkness while the hero is in hibernation. After the second stanza, the variation occurs, changing the tempo to accelerando, which means to speed up. Within the variation, the piano plays solo, accompanied by the violin and cello. T he tempo starts to ritardando, which means slow down, and then it goes back to the fast tempo, introducing the third stanza, which is the departure of the form. The melody sounds different and the range of the songs tone is medium because of its fast tempo. Within the departure, there are some parts being used from the first section of the song. Two lines from the third stanza introduce a new melody, and then the last two lines repeat that melody, changing the lyrics and range. The departure lets us consider ourselves that if theres darkness, theres always a light to shine the way. In the end, the song goes back to its original theme, ending the song in a minor chord, but lasts for about a few seconds. There are many varieties of musical sounds possible from the human voice. One of the varieties is falsetto. Falsetto is the highest register of the human voice. Its been used as a vocal technique to make the voice unnaturally high-pitched. To use falsetto, the singers must control their vocal cords to get a high note. They do that by imitating someone with a higher voice to shorten their vocal cords and then the cords stretch it out, so it would produce a head voice, which is the high register of the voice in speaking or singing. When using this technique, it has limited octave range, which could lead to passaggio, a transition between the vocal registers. Its a difficult technique to control, but famous singers, such as Prince and Michael Jackson, have practiced this technique to sing their songs better. The origin of the term is unknown because of its vagueness to know what that term is. But during the Renaissance period, the term was common in Italy because thats where they named the term. The term Falsetto is Italian for false. This vocal technique is commonly used by male singers, and they have used it during the 16th century when women were restricted from performing, so the men could fill in their roles at church and on stage. Falsetto has been used in different regions, for they have their own style of this technique. For instance, Hawaii has their own falsetto style. Although its part of the U.S, Hawaii still maintained their traditional culture before they annexed to the U.S. Their falsetto music dates back a long time ago when a group of immigrants from different countries brought their music with them, combined with their Hawaiian music that created their falsetto. Their falsetto is called ka leo kiekie. Like the other cultures in the 16th century, women were forbidden to perform while the men sang in high pitch. Whats different from the western use of falsetto is that they would emphasize the tone between the vocal registers. They would also amplif y the tone through repetition. Theyve used this technique to sing stories about their state culture. There may be some female singers used falsetto, but theres barely any proof of that since most male singers have used this technique for a long time. Another variety of music sound from the human voice is yodeling. Yodeling occurs when the singer switch between their voice from normal to a high pitch. When yodel, the singers have control of their voice in the range by switching to different vocal registers, and they timed their yodeling for a few seconds in a high volume. They sang non-lexical syllables to help project their yodeling. The origin of this technique is unknown since theres no evidence indicating when and how it was created; however, historians believed that yodeling occurred in the Alpine mountains in Switzerland. In the Renaissance era, the early yodeling was used by the herders to help communicate their flock of cows, or they used the technique to communicate the villagers from a different village. For the communication on the villages, perhaps yodeling acted as an early development of making long-distance communication before the telephone was invented in the 19th century. Since that discovery in the Alps, it beca me an everlasting tradition in Europe, and then it became popular in the 1830s for entertainment. Other than the Swiss Alps, yodeling is common around different cultures from around the world. For example, Central Africa has used yodeling. An ethnic group called the pygmy people yodeled for their complex polyphonic singing. Another example is the United States. A group of German immigrants first introduced yodeling in the 1800s to the U.S. Yodeling was used for their minstrel shows, consists of skits, acts, dancing, and music, throughout the 19th century. But after the 1900s, yodeling became common when singers use it for their country music. Yodeling has been useful for a long time, for it provides a purpose for letting the people communicate with each other and give different formats to express music also. String: An example of a string instrument is a violin. It is the smallest and high-pitched instrument in the string family. A violin is a carved hollow wooden box, which consists of many parts. The top plate of the violin is the top plate, or the belly, that joins the back plate by the carved sides called the ribs. The neck of the violin is attached to the front side, and that flat wooden strip on top is called the fingerboard. It runs across the neck to the bridge, which is in the middle of the top plate. The four strings are attached to the tailpiece, located on the bottom of the top plate, and then it runs across the bridge and neck to be fastened to four pegs in the pegbox, located at the top of the neck. A scroll is attached on top of the pegbox to make it decorative. Between the bridge are two f-holes. The sound holes were carved to reduce the thickness of the top plate and act as a resonator to strengthen the sounds created by the strings. Finally, located at the bottom of the top plate is the chinrest. It helps the violinist to position their jaw or chin when playing the violin. To play the violin, the player must hold the violin with his left hand and the bow in his right hand. On the violinist left side, the fingers must be on the fingerboard, chin on the chinrest, and the body of the violin resting on the shoulder. Also, the strings must be tuned in the order, G, D, A, and E, from the left to right. When the violin is played, the violinist presses the strings to change the pitch, and he can also shift his left hand up and down to create a high or low set of tones. As for the bow, it is drawn onto the strings, causing the strings to vibrate to produce a high pitch. There are many techniques to play the violin and other bowed instruments, such as double-stopping, playing two strings at the same time to produce a chord, and open strings, without touching the string to produce the lowest note. Ever since the Baroque era, the violin is divided into two se ctions of the orchestra, the first and second. The first violinists play the melody while the second violinists play the harmony (or sometimes melody). Other than the orchestra, they also have the same role of being first and second in the string quartet, which consists two violins, one viola, and one cello. The violin plays a minor role in popular music, but in western culture, they called violin playing, fiddling. A fiddle is a second name for the violin, but its only known to bluegrass and country music. The fiddle and violin have the same shape, but their playing style is different. Fiddling would produce dancing rhythms, along with quick note changes, while the classical violin plays sustained notes. Overall, the most common uses for the violin is in classical music. Woodwind: A flute is an example of a woodwind instrument. Throughout history, the flute was the oldest instrument. They were made of wood, and it came in different forms depending on the culture. But now, most of the flutes constructed is now metal. In the metal version, there are three joints on the flute: the head, middle, and foot. In the head joint, it has a small piece at the end of the joint called the crown, and it keeps the head joint positioned at its usual depth. Near the crown is the embouchure hole, the center of the lip plate, resting place for the lower lip. The next joint is the middle joint, and its an important part of the instrument. The middle joint consists of flute keys. The original flute has open holes that would be covered with fingers; however, the modern flute replaced the original with a complex system of knitted keys and steel. Most modern flutes have closed-hole keys while some have open-hole keys. The closed-hole is common for beginners because it helps learn how to properly hold the flute, but the open-hole is an advanced flute because of its use for making special effects for contemporary music. The last joint of the flute is the foot joint. The foot joint is where the sound produces from the flute; however, the foot joint also has keys. There are two types of foot joint: C and B foot. The B foot joint has three keys while the C foot joint has two. Depending on what foot joint the flute has, it would produce a different tone and register. To play the flute, it must be held horizontally to the right, so the player is in a good stance. Then, the left hand must be in the first half of the middle joint while the right hand is on the second half. Once the flutist is in position, the flutist can blow through the lip plate to produce a soprano voice in a low register. There are no specific chords for the flute, but wherever they press the keys, it can produce a specific octave scale in a flat or sharp note. In the symphony orchestra, it has the minor role in playing the melody frequently because of its timbre being noticed in the orchestra. But the most common uses for the flutes occurs in concert and marching bands. In the concert band, the woodwind instruments are seated in front, like the string instruments in the orchestra. Theres no specific seating chart for the concert band, but the flute or another woodwind instrument can play either the melody or harmony in this ensemble. As for the marching band, the flute produces high-pitched tones for the band, but sometimes they play the melody of their musical piece. Brass: A trumpet is an example of the brass instrument. It produces the highest pitch from the brass family, declaring itself with a brilliant tone color. Like all brass instruments, it has a mouthpiece on the back. The mouthpiece leads a flow of air from the player to the trumpet to produce the sound. Connected to the mouthpiece is the lead pipe. This pipe leads the soundwave around and through the instrument. The next part is the tuning slide. Its in a c-shape, and it slides in and out to adjust tuning the trumpet, so the further its slide out, the lower the tone it would produce. On the tuning slide is the small lever called the water key. Whenever the player blows through the mouthpiece, theres a small amount of moisture coming inside the trumpet. To clear the moisture, they should press the key and then blow the mouthpiece to get the water out. Next is the valve slides. There are three different valve slides, each connected to the valve pistons. Its like the tuning slide, but th e valve slides tune the pitch of each valve pistons. The important feature of the trumpet is the valve pistons. The three pistons move up and down in the valve casings to produce different tones by different combinations of air pressure and finger movements from the player. However, each valve pistons are different, for they lower the tone of the chromatic scale. The fist piston lowers the tone by a half step while the second lowers the tone by a full step. Also, the third piston lowers the tone by a minor third, which is three half steps. At the end of the trumpet is the bell. This part is recognizable because its part of every brass instruments. It amplifies and creates the sound of the trumpet. To play the trumpet, the player must hold on to the valve slides on the left side while the right side is positioning the fingers to the pistons. And then, the player blows through the mouthpiece and uses the valves to start playing. When playing the trumpet, it plays an octave scale depen ding on what valves theyre pressing. The most common uses for trumpet is in classical and jazz ensemble. In an orchestra, the brass instruments are seated behind the string section because of its loud dynamics. For the trumpet, its mostly been used as a harmony to produce a brighter sound for the orchestra and sometimes plays the melody. In jazz music, the trumpet plays the lead role in an ensemble. The trumpet player carries the melody of most jazz songs because of its loud pitch. Along with the trumpet is the trombone that is part of a bass line and a counter melody to the trumpet. Percussion: The cymbals are an example of the percussion instrument. The cymbals are two circular plates, made of different types of alloy. Each cymbal has a leather strap in the middle, so the player can hold the cymbals. Theres no specific example on how to play this instrument. What the player needs to do is struck against another cymbal, creating an indefinite pitch. The cymbals have been used in many ensembles, ranging from orchestra to marching band. In the orchestra, the cymbals play a minor role there, for their role is to surprise the audience for drama and excitement, or its used to emphasize the rhythm. Also, the cymbals have a major role in the marching band. Along with the percussion instruments, theyre responsible for keeping the tempo going. Even when the brass and woodwind instruments are not playing, the percussion instruments keep on playing. The cymbals in the marching band follow the accented rhythms the drums are making, so they would keep the audience surprised. Last Friday, I watched How I Met Your Mother on TV, and I noticed their use of music. The show started with an opening scene, and then move on to the intro, which lasts around 10 seconds. Most of the scenes that I watched doesnt play a lot of music, but I heard some background music playing because of the locations the characters were at, such as bars, restaurants, and house parties. However, I heard some instruments playing when they switch to new scenes. Most of the instruments played at a soft dynamic, and the most common instrument I heard was an acoustic guitar. There are some instruments included, such as piano, violin, and harp. The show ends with credits, and it plays an extended intro song. With those instruments combined, I recognized a pattern for using music. Most of the instruments I heard on the show have been used as tools for storytelling. The show played the guitar and piano to show what the characters are doing right now. Also, they used the two instruments for movi ng ahead in the next days or weeks. It could be fast or short depending on how much tempo is used. But the most important use of the instruments is setting the mood. The characters can conflict with each other, and the instruments played a major or minor chord depending on what emotions theyre feeling right now. It helps attract the viewers to get their attention to see what happens next, and it lets the viewers feel sympathy towards the characters emotion because of the tonality of the scene. There were some minor uses for the instruments. For example, the harp was played to show the characters flashback or imagination of the future because the harps tone is mystical for any strange occurrence to happen in the future. As for the violin, it helps build suspense for the scene. It plays a low pitch, and as the low pitch ends, it plays a high pitch, bringing a surprise to the viewers. In this show, the suspense can affect the characters, but its funny to watch when something minor look s serious to them doesnt look serious to the viewers. As for the commercial breaks, theres so many random music playing. Theres no specific pattern about music playing in the commercials. But I noticed about how they choose their music. Depending on the advertisement, they used music that matches the companies theme to persuade their audience to buy or support the product. For example, I remember seeing a commercial about the charity group. Theyre persuading the audience to support the abused animals. They persuaded me with pictures of pets with sad eyes, and they used a piano music in a minor chord to get us emotionally attached to the pets. Overall, commercials used music to make us believed that the benefits they showed would work on us. Young Most of the elderly grandparents share frustration with new technology. They have grown up in a time when everything around them was produced, developed, or managed without the use of gadgets and gimmicks propelled by technology. Their generation was mostly hands-on while this generation is hands-off. Everyday tasks leads to frustration. When doing the laundry, there are buttons to press to get it done. The television is powered by direct tv/cable with 300-500 stations. The ceiling lights, sprinkler system, heating and air conditioner is a delicate system that requires skill to work it. Driving the car and making repairs is a tremendous task when all its working parts is generated by a complicated electronic system. The elderly sees technology as an unwelcome change just to make phone calls. They see these small, voice activated, cordless, hand held devices, with letters/numbers too small and general operations is a headache, even with the use of a magnifying glass. Most appliances are remote controlled by voice or touch. Even push a button and your coffee is made. Most elderly people lack the education in technology to be able to keep up with this rapid pace. What's worse is that they don't see how they fit into this technological world. When visiting doctors, attorneys, and other specialized personnel, the elderly may not be able to understand the terminology in these various fields. Visits are short, providing too much information to absorbed at once. Knowledge and use of computers could be an effective tool, if they had the skills necessary to use it. Society seems to ignore the elderly, forgetting that many have paved the way for this technological advancement. Elderly individuals are usually on a fixed income. Many live alone, often depending on trustworthy, skilled laborers to repair everyday household items. However, it can prove to be costly, stressful, with a sense of vulnerability, when hiring someone. This generation of young people may not understand the complex nature of technology placed on the elderly. Every senior citizen should be given an opportunity to learn the new way of life. The challenge of knowing technology gets greater, as new and innovative technology emerges each day. Therefore, some fights happened because of this purpose. This anger could be transferred anywhere, whether in public life or private life. So, having a happy private life in a city where a fight between important families could always occurred anywhere is not an easy thing. To support this statement, with his play Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare wrote a fight between families (Montagues and Capulet) in which a love is hard due to this anger. In fact, the conflict between private and public life is one of the main themes. Otherwise, there is clearly a conflict individuals versus society in this play. Indeed, the public world of Verona affects the private world of Romeo and Juliet. They cannot do what they want; some things are forbidden. The rivalry made the lovers forced to hide and escape from their real identities too, finally, lead them to death. First, a real love is two characters who fall in love with the soul of the other without caring about the past or all the things around his or her life. There are times when conflict can be helpful to the group by bringing up problems that may not have been noticed by the group. There are also times when conflict can be detrimental to a group dynamic by causing the group damage. Conflict management is having the ability to manage conflict within a group where there is a good amount of conflict of ideas without a large amount of conflict of feelings (Tubbs, 2012). This exposure and the restrictions of hapless states to accommodate to Global Warming challenges were highlighted in Climate Change 2001, the Third Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC ) . The study established how human activity ( firing dodo fuels and alterations in land-use ) is modifying the planetary clime, with temperature rises projected for the following 100 old ages that could impact human public assistance and the environment. We will write a custom essay sample on Global Warming And Human Security In Ghana Environmental Sciences Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now The historical clime record for Africa shows heating of about 0.7Aà °C over most of the continent during the 20th century ; a lessening in rainfall over big parts of the Sahel and West Africa and an addition in rainfall in other parts of Africa. Ghana is non exempted from the hazards of these recent alterations in Global Warming and alterations in conditions forms. Although the authorities is making good to decrease the consequence of Global Warming, Gganaians and most significantly local natives have been left behind in the consciousness and engagement in both determination and execution of clime alteration policies and patterns. The survey recommends the engagement of local people and an addition in climate alteration information airing to educate the public on steps to hold the consequence of Global Warming on human security, saving of H2O organic structures and the state ââ¬Ës flora screen. . Chapter ONE Introduction 1.1 Background to the Problem Many scientists, economic experts and policy shapers now agree that the universe is confronting a menace from clime heating. The grade of the impact and its distribution is still debated. Current grounds suggests that states in temperate and polar locations may profit from little economic advantages because extra heating will profit their agricultural sectors. Many states in tropical and sub-tropical parts are expected to be more vulnerable to warming because extra heating will impact their fringy H2O balance and harm their agricultural sectors. However, small research has been done on tropical states, so small is known about the extent of these amendss. The job is expected to be most terrible in Africa where current information is the poorest, technological alteration has been the slowest, and the domestic economic systems depend to a great extent on agribusiness. African husbandmans have adapted a certain sum of clime variableness, but climate alteration may good coerce big parts o f fringy agribusiness out of production in Africa. The agribusiness sector is a major subscriber to the current economic system of most African states, averaging 21 % and runing from 10 % to 70 % of the GDP. Even without clime alteration, there are serious concerns about agribusiness in Africa because of H2O supply variableness, dirt debasement, and repeating drought events. A figure of states face semi-arid conditions that make agribusiness challenging. Further, development attempts have been peculiarly hard to prolong. African agribusiness has the slowest record of productiveness addition in the universe. Experts are concerned that the agribusiness sector in Africa will be particularly sensitive to future clime alteration and any addition in climate variableness. The current clime is already fringy with regard to precipitation in many parts of Africa. Further warming in these semi- arid locations is likely to be lay waste toing to agriculture at that place. Even in the moist Torrid Zones, increased heat is expected to cut down harvest outputs. Agronomic surveies suggest that outputs could fall rather dramatically in the absence of dearly-won version steps. The current agriculture engin eering is basic, and incomes low, proposing that husbandmans will hold few options to accommodate. Soon, public substructure such as roads, long-run conditions prognosiss, and agricultural research and extension are unequal to procure appropriate version. Unfortunately, none of the empirical surveies of clime impacts in Africa have explored what versions would be efficient for either African husbandmans or African authoritiess. This is a serious lack in African impact research, given the importance of efficient version. Although there are well-established concerns about clime alteration effects in Africa, there is small quantitative information refering how serious these effects will be. These theoretical accounts show that Africa is the most vulnerable continent in the universe to climate alteration. 1.3 Statement of the Problem In recent times, clime alteration has become important in the lives of ordinary people in Ghana and has become a topic of concern for turn toing socio-economic issues in Ghana. It has become so of import that several seminars and workshops have been held in Ghana to educate and research into issues of clime alteration. Surveies have shown that the consequence of clime alteration will devolve at a increasingly faster rate if disciplinary steps are non put in topographic point. Research findings besides indicate that clime alteration could hold an impact on human and socio-economic security. It is besides of import to observe that Ghana would be one of the states to be hardest hit by the effects of clime alteration though it contributes really small to it. Surveies have besides shown that the clime alteration would hold impacts on GDPs of most agricultural based economic systems. Despite the significance of clime alteration to Ghana and its socio economic sciences small research has be en done on the estimated impact on the ordinary Ghanaian and the macro economic sciences of the state. We need to happen out the jobs at interest, of important concern are, the nature of clime alteration in Ghana, the impact of clime alteration on homo and socio economic security. 1.4 Aims of the Study The chief aims of the survey is to analyze the nature of clime alteration in Ghana, the impact of clime alteration on homo and socio economic security. The research is aimed at specifically turn toing the followers: Nature of clime alteration in Ghana. The impact of clime alteration on Human security. The impact of clime alteration on socio-economic security. Solutions or extenuation of the impact of clime alteration. 1.5 Beginnings of Data and Methodology This subdivision will foreground the process and methods used in the research work. These consist of research design, country of survey, population sample and trying techniques, instruments for informations aggregation, method of informations aggregation and analyses of informations. 1.5.1 Research Design The research design adopted for this survey is descriptive. In this survey nevertheless a combination of instance survey and causal comparative designs were employed. This enabled the research to do usage of extended docudrama informations juxtaposed against the responses of administered questionnaires. 1.5.2 Area of Study The research covered the Sakumono Area. Sakumono is located in the coastal portion of Greater Accra Region. The country of survey is along the Accra ââ¬â Tema beach route. Its length is stretches 20km apart. The Sakumono country is populated by fishermen and vegetable husbandmans and until late a important figure of urban inhabitants. 1.5.3 Sample and Sampling Technique A entire figure of 100 individuals dwelling of 20 fishermen, 20 fishwifes, 20 husbandmans, 20 market adult females, 10 craftsmen and 10 adult females with assorted trades participated in the survey. To guarantee the unity of relevant features like age, sex, matrimonial position and business, stratified random sampling technique was used for choice of the sample population. The population of traditional trades was grouped into fishermen and fishwifes, husbandmans and market Sellerss and other traditional trades. This technique ensured that all bomber groups ( fishermen, fishwifes, husbandmans, market Sellerss, and other traditional trades ) were adequately represented. 1.5.4 Instrument for Data Collection A questionnaire was used for informations aggregation. The questionnaire was designed in two parts, the first portion contained information on biographic informations of the respondents. The biographical information consists of age, sex, matrimonial position and figure of kids. The 2nd portion consists of a 14 point questionnaire grouped into 5 classs with sub points in each class. The research inquiries were used to beg information from the respondents on the followers: General cognition of the jobs of clime alteration. Impact of clime alteration on wellness and wellbeing. Impact of clime alteration on work end product. Expected action by policy shapers and authoritiess to extenuate the impact of clime alteration. 1.6 Significance of Study Climate alteration is a menace to humanity, and to Ghana as a developing state the impacts are far making. The survey would be good to locals, kids in Sakumono, the fishermen, market common people, the territory assembly, estate contractors, the authorities and Non-Governmental Organizations ( NGOs ) . Finally the survey will function as a base mention for farther academic surveies. 1.7 Scope and Limitation of the Study 1.7.1 Scope This research was based on grownups with traditional trades within the Sakumono country. It besides focused on interviews with experts in the field of clime alteration. 1.7.2 Restriction The research work was confronted with some challenges during the survey. The first job was that respondents were disbelieving as to the grounds for the research. Some people thought it was information assemblage for relocation. After the necessary account and confidence from the research worker the respondents began to collaborate but at a point started demanding for some pecuniary wages for replying the questionnaires. The research worker besides found it hard measuring needful paperss from the metrological section of Ghana since they were unavailable. 1.8 Literature Review In this subdivision a aggregation of constructs aimed to reexamine the critical points of current cognition in clime alteration has been analyzed based on the survey aims. These constructs are secondary beginnings, and as such, do non describe any new or original findings. 1.8.1 Nature of Climate Change Climate alteration is fast turning to be one of the top issues that resonate in all corridors of treatment that affect human endurance and development. Human endurance is bit by bit been disturbed by the changing of the conditions which to many people is as a consequence of human activities. From worlds to livestock everyone is affected by the changing of the conditions. The conditions is going warmer and doing intolerable conditions to human endurance. Water organic structures, agribusiness and energy are earnestly been affected. Climate alteration has hence become a planetary issue that requires a planetary response. The scientific discipline tells us that emanations have the same effects from wherever they arise. The deduction for the economic sciences is that this is clearly and unequivocally an international corporate action job with all the attendant troubles of bring forthing consistent action and of avoiding free equitation. It is a job necessitating international cooperation and leading. On the African scene, many analysts have noticed that the continent has contributed small to planetary clime alteration. Harmonizing to Camilla Toulmin, Africa has contributed really small to Global Warming. The nature of Climate Change and the breakability of African states means that African states will be negatively affected by agribusiness, land and natural resources. 1.8.2 The Impact of Climate Change on Human Security Climate alteration will impact the basic elements of life for people around the universe ââ¬â entree to H2O, nutrient production, wellness, and the environment. Hundreds of 1000000s of people could endure hunger, H2O deficits and coastal implosion therapy as the universe warms, every bit good as high degrees of poorness and hapless administration has made Africa peculiarly vulnerable to the effects of clime alteration. Climate alteration will ensue in deficit of resources for human ingestion this may trip struggle between and within states, as resources and safe topographic points become scarcer, and catastrophes destroy supports, increasing the figure of migrators and refugees. For illustration, Edward, Shankar and Sergenti explicate how deficits in seasonal rains that result in drouth and economic hurt addition the likeliness of civil war by up to 50 % . Again At that meeting Margaret Beckett, UK ââ¬Ës Foreign Secretary, warned about migration on an unprecedented graduated t able due to deluging, disease and dearth. She besides said that drouth and harvest failure could do intensified competition for nutrient, H2O and energy. ââ¬Å" It is about our corporate security in a fragile and progressively mutualist universe, â⬠she said. Climate alteration besides has major economic deductions. Harmonizing Oââ¬â¢Brien with clime alteration, human security in one topographic point or for one group is progressively linked to the actions and results of others possible struggles happening between nutrient and fuel production in competition for land and other resources and in the publicity of bio-fuels and other extenuation steps. Stern farther indicates that the investing that takes topographic point in the following 10 -20 old ages will hold a profound consequence on the clime in the 2nd half of this century and in the following. But if the degree of apathy shown by most states persist it would be obvious in the coming decennaries, could make hazards of major break to economic and societal activity, on a graduated table similar to those associated with the great wars and the economic depression of the first half of the twentieth century. And it will be hard or impossible to change by reversal these alterations. 1.8.3 The Impact of Climate Change on Socio-Economic Security Socio-economic factors of any state is fundamentally of its indispensable services such H2O, nutrient, adjustment and energy. These are what most unluckily has become straight impacted by Global Warming. Harmonizing to Margaret Beckett, UK ââ¬Ës Foreign Secretary, warned about migration on an unprecedented graduated table due to deluging, disease and dearth. She besides said that drouth and harvest failure could do intensified competition for nutrient, H2O and energy. ââ¬Å" It is about our corporate security in a fragile and progressively mutualist universe, â⬠she said. Climate alteration besides has major economic deductions. Harmonizing to a 2006 study by Sir Nicholas Stern the costs of accommodating to climate alteration could be every bit much as 10 % of universe economic end product. 1.8.4 Extenuation to the Impact of Global Warming As noticed by Sachs ( 2008 ) the attempt in turn toing Global Warming needs prompt and strong action. Because clime alteration is a planetary job, the response to it must be international. It must be based on a shared vision of long-run ends and understanding on models that will speed up action over the following decennary, and it must construct on reciprocally reenforcing attacks at national, regional and international degree. Furthermore, Stern ( 2009 ) estimates that if the universe does non move on holding the badness of Global Warming the overall costs and hazards of clime alteration will be tantamount to losing at least 5 % of planetary GDP each twelvemonth. If a wider scope of hazards and impacts is taken into history, the estimations of harm could lift to 20 % of GDP or more. This surely will be a intensifying suffering to already reeling and weak economic system position of most African states including Ghana In contrast, planetary economic analysts have besides estimated that the costs of action for cut downing nursery gas emanations to avoid the worst impacts of clime alteration could be limited to around 1 % of planetary GDP each twelvemonth. It has been suggested by Wangari ( 2004 ) that the usage of traditional cognition could be a great replacement in covering with Global Warming. Traditional cognition can be seen as that which emerges from the interaction amongst persons and between persons and their environment, ensuing in a merchandise, which has been formed and transformed by the society itself. The cognition, which is a societal concept, harmonizing to is culturally specific and has its distinguishable features, It is embedded in societal value, beliefs or norms, expressed in narratives, traditional music and other cultural activities. Local cognition that addresses climate alteration can be made from three types of information: Accrued cultural cognition, Knowledge modified through contact with other civilizations, and progressive acquisition of the environment. Autochthonal Peoples have historically played an active function in the preservation of eco-systems important to the bar of clime change.. Traditional norms and regulations have it that some yearss are prohibited for the harvest home of fuel wood in these forest channels. These steps go a long manner to let the forest to retrieve and make the status for the forest to function as a C sink to attend Global Warming. Sacred grooves or countries are frequently associated with cultural rites, such as rainmaking. Members of the community are prohibited from executing certain activities in them, including hunting, assemblage, wood film editing, cultivating, graze, etc. Taboo yearss and the establishment of local Torahs on hunting and fishing have helped to conserv e biodiversity. 1.8.5 Traveling to a Low-Carbon Global Economy Another of import measure needed to undertake Global Warming is by following the cognition in traveling to a low-carbon planetary economic system. The first is carbon pricing, through revenue enhancement, emanations trading or ordinance, so that people are faced with the full societal costs of their actions. The purpose should be to construct a common planetary C monetary value across states and sectors. Secondary, Simon ( 2007 ) contend that there is the demand to hold a comprehensive policy on engineering to drive the development and deployment at graduated table of a scope of low-carbon and high-efficiency merchandises. And the 3rd is action to take barriers to energy efficiency, and to inform, educate and carry persons about what they can make to react to climate alteration. Additionally, Ogata A ; Sen ( 2003 ) have observed that action on clime alteration will make important concern chances, as new markets are created in low-carbon energy engineerings and other low-carbon goods and services. These markets could turn to be deserving 100s of one million millions of dollars each twelvemonth, and employment in these sectors will spread out consequently. The concluding thought would be to undertake clime alteration is the pro-growth scheme for the longer term, and it can be done in a manner that does non crest the aspirations for growing of rich or hapless states. 1.9 Agreements of Chapters Chapter one of the survey, comprise of the debut, which provides a brief background of the survey, the statement of the job every bit good as the significance of the survey. It besides outlines the general aims of the survey, the methodological analysis used for informations assemblage and analysis every bit good as a replete of literature refering the survey country. The 2nd chapter offers a comprehensive overview of the survey country, measuring the chief issues concerned which included international conventions protocols and pacts, challenges of clime alteration docket, the stairss taken to cut downing the impact of Global Warming and a situational instance of Global Warming in Ghana. Chapter three elaborates on both primary and secondary informations collected which entails presentation of facts and analysis of research results. The last chapter ( chapter four ) outlines the drumhead, decision and recommendations of the survey. ENDNOTES Chapter TWO OVERVIEW OF STUDY AREA 2.1 Definitions 2.1.1 Global Warming Global Warming is the regional or global-scale alterations in historical clime forms originating from natural and/or semisynthetic causes and ensuing in both intermittent but progressively frequent, utmost impacts ( e.g. big storms and heat moving ridges ) and slow on-set, permeant, cumulative effects ( e.g. extinction of life signifiers and sea degree rise ) ( Simon, 2007 ) ; climate alteration involves the interactions of many systems, such as the ambiance, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere, every bit good as the human systems. In this survey Global Warming will be used interchangeably with clime alteration. 2.1.2 Environmental security Environmental security is the protection of people from short- and long-run depredations of nature, semisynthetic menaces to nature, and impairment of the natural environment. 2.1.3 Hazard A jeopardy is a potentially detrimental physical event, phenomenon or human activity that may do loss of life or hurt, belongings harm, societal and economic break or environmental debasement ( UN/ISDR, 2004 ) . 2.1.4 Human security Human security is the protection of ââ¬Å" the critical nucleus of all human lives in ways that enhance human freedoms and fulfilment â⬠( Ogata A ; Sen, 2003 ) ; the security of persons, their supports, and human rights including economic security, nutrient security, wellness security, environmental security, personal security, community security and political security. 2.2 International Conventions, Protocols and Treaties The demand for international Conventions, Protocols and Treaties mostly is based on the fact that all states will be affected by alteration in clime. The most vulnerable, the poorest states and Populations will endure earliest and most, even though they have contributed least to the causes of clime alteration. The international convention puts a duty and committedness to every individual state to lend in little manner to cut downing the impact of the Global Warming. Since the consciousness of Global Warming took centre phase in planetary treatment there has been hosts of conventions, protocols and pacts that country geared towards sustainable development and environmental understandings. The 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, offers a roadmap towards sustainable development. Chapter 24, entitled â⬠Global Action for Women towards Sustainable Development â⬠, calls upon authoritiess to extinguish all obstructions to adult females ââ¬Ës full engagement in sustainable development and public life At the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, the importance of governmental committedness towards the decrease of activities that result in Global Warming was reaffirmed. The Convention to Combat Desertification ( UNCCD, 1994 ) most clearly recognizes the function of adult females in rural supports and encourages the full engagement of adult females and work forces in the execution of the convention. The UNCCD stresses the of import function played by adult females in parts affected by desertification and/or drouth, peculiarly in rural countries in developing states. Although the 1992 Convention on Biodiversity recognizes preservation and sustainable usage of biological diverseness The following convention to be looked at is the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change ( UNFCCC ) , which recognized the full engagement of husbandmans and pastoral rural folks. Additionally, the Kyoto Protocol, that outlines decreases in nursery grass instituted inter-governmental dialogues under the UNFCCC are germinating around the cardinal countries: extenuation, version, engineering and finance. At the 2007 United Nations Climate Change Conference ( COP13 ) in Bali, dialogues began for the post-Kyoto government ( 2012 and beyond ) . 2.3 Stairss to Reduce the Impact of Global Warming States confronting diverse fortunes will utilize different attacks to do their part to undertaking clime alteration. But action by single states is non plenty. Each state, nevertheless big, is merely a portion of the job. It is indispensable for states to hold a shared international vision of long-run ends. The undermentioned stairss as outlined provide a really utile suggestion to planetary policy shapers in their effort to outline a policy for universe to follow: Expanding and associating the turning figure of emanations merchandising strategies around the universe is a powerful manner to advance cost-efficient decreases in emanations and to convey forward action in developing states: strong marks in rich states could drive flows amounting to 10s of one million millions of dollars each twelvemonth to back up the passage to low-carbon development waies. Informal co-ordination every bit good as formal understandings can hike the effectivity of investings in invention around the universe. Globally, support for energy R A ; D should at least dual, and support for the deployment of new low-carbon engineerings should increase up to five-fold. International co- operation on merchandise criterions is a powerful manner to hike energy efficiency. The loss of natural woods around the universe contributes more to planetary emanations each twelvemonth than the conveyance sector. Controling deforestation is a extremely cost-efficient manner to cut down emanations ; big scale international pilot programmes to research the best ways to make this could acquire afoot really rapidly. The poorest states are most vulnerable to climate alteration. It is indispensable that clime alteration be to the full integrated into development policy, and that rich states honour their pledges to increase support through abroad development aid. 2.4 Global Warming in Ghana Ghana lies on the West seashore of Africa with a Population of about 25million. The entire land country of Ghana is 238,539km2. Agribusiness represents the most of import land usage type in footings of its spacial coverage. Agribusiness in the wood takes up more than 75 % of the land while in the northern savannas ; the coverage is between 50 and 60 % . About 11 % of the land country of Ghana is under preservation. Whiles at that place has non been a important happening of natural catastrophes compared to other Asiatic and African states there are still pockets of instabilities as a consequence of the emerging issue of climate alteration. The most detrimental impacts to climate alteration for Ghana has been to H2O resources, agribusiness, and drouths. About 80 % of Ghana ââ¬Ës population depends on Agriculture for a life. Agribusiness in Ghana is extremely vulnerable to climate alteration variableness and long term clime Change which would ensue in a higher nutrient monetary values, lower domestic grosss and broadening of current history shortages due to lower export net incomes together with increased rising prices and increased external liability ( Zaragoza, 2005 Namikat, 2005 ) Ghana ââ¬Ës environment and cardinal natural resources have been progressively threatened by intensifying and unsustainable force per unit areas from fast turning population, spread outing agricultural and industrial activities and rapid urbanisation. One other major issue associated with biodiversity in Ghana is the loss of home ground and the depletion of biological resources. Persistent development of the Savannah has resulted in widespread debasement. Forest flora and dirts hold about 40 % of all the C stored in tellurian ecosystems. Release of C as a consequence of deforestation contributes to planetary clime alteration. The grounds of Global Warming in Ghana is clear in the face of a reduced rainfall, increase temperature and vaporization in dry countries, Frequent drouth enchantments taking to terrible H2O deficit, Change in seting day of the months of one-year harvests, Increased fungous eruptions and insect infestations due to alterations in temperature and humidness, Decrease in forest country and country under cultivation and Increased potency of malaria transmittal and loads on the state ââ¬Ës wellness attention system. A national Committee on Climate Change is hosted by the Ministry of Environment. This commission has the authorization of reexamining policies and plans to complement national precedences and contribute to decrease of nursery gas emanations and an addition in C sinks. The Ministry is the focal point for UNFCCC activities ( Agyeman-Bonsu, 2007a ) . Ghana signed the UNFCCC in June 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. The Convention entered intoforce globally on 21 March 1994 and specifically for Ghana on December 5, 1995, three months after Ghana ratified the Convention. In 2002, Ghana ââ¬Ës Parliament passed a declaration to sign the Kyoto Protocol ( KP ) and the KP entered into force globally on 16 February 2005 ( Agyeman-Bonsu, 2007b ) ENDNOTES Chapter THREE Evaluation OF DATA 3.1 Presentation of Datas A sum of 100 respondents took portion in this survey, consisting of 20 ( 20 ) representatives from each of the followers: fishermen, fishwifes, husbandmans, market adult females. There were besides were ten ( 10 ) craftsmen and 10s ( 10 ) adult females with assorted trades participated in the survey. The chief thought for placing the respondents above, recognized the above mentioned professions are chiefly been engaged by the citizens and by gender, the survey intend to set up the degree of exposure between work forces and adult females. The causes of Global Warming, impacts and how each of the identified group of respondents react to Global Warming in footings of energy wellness, H2O and life conditions. 3.2 Biographic Information For equal gender representation, an equal figure of 50 were drawn from both males and females for the survey. Table 1. Sexual activity of Respondents Males Number Respondents Females Number Respondents Fishermans 20 Fishmongers 20 Farmers 20 Market adult females 20 Craftsmans 20 Womans in Trades 10 Sum 50 50 3.3 Age distribution of respondents The mean age among the male respondents is 40 with that of females being 49. Most of the work forces ( 60 % of male respondents ) were aged above 35 whilst for the female respondents ; about 70 per centum were aged above 35. 3.4 Marital position Refering the matrimonial position of the respondents, 60 per centum of fishermen were married, 15 per centum had divorced, and 10 per centum were besides widowed. On a similar note, more husbandmans were said they were married ( 85 % ) , 10 per centum were widowed but 5 per centum were divorced. Among the craftsmen interviewed, more than half ( 60 % ) said they had married, none had experienced divorced but 40 per centum had neââ¬â¢er married. On the portion of the female respondents, 80 per centum of the fishwifes, 70 per centum of market adult females and 50 per centum of adult females in trades said they were married. Besides, 10 per centum of fishwifes, 20 per centum of market adult females and adult females in trades had experienced divorced. More adult females in trades ( 30 % ) have neââ¬â¢er married and besides more of such adult females were widowed compared to the remainder of the respondents. It was revealed that more of males ( 46 % male respondents were cognizant of clime alteration ) were cognizant of the planetary consent to climate alter the attempts of change by reversaling the tendency than female respondents ( 30 % of females respondents were cognizant of clime alteration ) . Figure 1. Awareness of Climate Change Campaign In all merely 38 per centum of the respondents indicated their consciousness to climate alteration run. Despite their ignorance about the run, most of the male respondents were cognizant of the jobs climate alteration is doing, mentioning among other things, hot conditions. 3.6 Impact of clime alteration on wellness and good being 60 per centum of female respondents complained of frequent wellness jobs but merely 46 % of male respondents said they have noticed alterations in wellness related jobs. More fishermen ( 65 % ) reported that the rate of trial to infirmary hold increased in recent times. This is followed by adult females in trades, where 50 % indicated of frequent wellness jobs. On the general wellbeing of the people interviewed, a pouncing proportion of females ( 90 % ) complained of economic adversity as a consequence of less gross revenues and lower incomes. Besides, about 55 % of males interviewed complained that there has been recent economic adversity as a consequence of decrease in end product of work. 3.7 Impact of clime alteration on work end product From the survey, 60 % female respondents indicated that productiveness has enormously reduced. As one adult female commented ââ¬Å" bad conditions affects the fish we can catch â⬠. Less fish caught affect the gross revenues and gross of fishwifes, which finally reduces incomes for families. Craftsmans and adult females in unidentified trade both complained of deficit of gross revenues marks. 3.8 Expected action by policy shapers and authoritiess to extenuate the impact of clime alteration The survey farther wanted to happen out the expected actions locals expect from authoritiess and policy shapers with respect to climate alteration. The consequence were that 55 % of entire respondents said their positions as locals and natives needed to be sought when outlining any national policy. Respondents who presumptively are at the closest to the creative activity and care of clime alteration are non included in policy and decision-making. About 20 % said they wanted authorities to demo more commitment to any policy drafted and shoot more financess towards climate direction. 3.9 Pictures demoing the impact of Global Warming on the Sakumono Lagoon The images in Appendix B seek to reenforce the points that Global Warming is impacting human and economic security in Ghana. The captioned exposure depicts assorted cases and conditions back uping this averment. Chapter FOUR SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION 4.1 Drumhead The activities of few fabrication and agricultural industries in Ghana consequences in high-carbon coevals that has negative effects on clime alteration. Alternate low-carbon emanations that would non cut down economic growing could be used where available. It has been established that developed states account for 80 % of planetary emanations lending to the depletion of the ozone bed. The necessary force per unit area could be put on states most responsible for green house concentration in the ambiance to cut down their emanations significantly. The research found out that ordinances on land usage was loose and those who degrade land travel unpunished. Methods could be devised to better land direction of ecological sites to conserve biodiversity, peculiarly in wetland countries. There no local engagement in protection and direction of the Sakumono laguna and its environments. The Autochthonal people could be included in the preservation of eco-systems through the usage of local imposts to forestall clime alteration. Thirty-eight per centum of the respondents were non cognizant of the impacts of Global Warming and could non entree and utilize day-to-day conditions prognosiss of the Meteorological Department. The usage of local idioms could be used to better conditions information distribution. The research established that 67 % the respondents were non adequately accommodated and were at hazard of the conditions. Housing strategies on flexible footings could be provided to locals who can non afford equal lodging. Waste disposal at the Sakumono Lagoon and its environ were disorderly and set in topographic points that threatened the endurance of the laguna with its vegetations and zoologies. Existing environmental ordinances on waste disposal could be enforced. The respondents ââ¬Ë reported 89 % frequent contraction of respiratory diseases in the past 5 old ages. Health installations could be extended to the locals particularly those prone to these diseases ( the aged and kids ) . The research established that there were no co-ops supplying fiscal and other signifiers of support for the hapless land-dwellers, fishermen and market adult females. Cooperatives could be formed to supply fiscal and other signifiers of support to the locals in the Sakumono general country. Eighty-five per centum of respondents use wood coal or firewood for cookery intents. The debut of reasonably monetary value gas could cut down dependance on wood coal and firewood. 4.2 Decision Ghana is vulnerable and delicate to climate alteration depends chiefly as a consequence of less governmental committedness and deficiency of information to the chief participants of the environment. This is coupled with institutional failings and this could take to serious impact on wellness, nutrient, H2O and endurance of its citizen in decennaries in front. 4.3 Recommendations The authorities and municipal assemblies in Climate Change extenuation should concentrate on alternate low C development and usage, that does non cut down economic growing. On international platforms and during international conventions the authorities should set the necessary force per unit area on states most responsible for green house concentration in the ambiance to cut down emanations significantly. Industries in Ghana, both fabrication and agricultural should follow emanation decrease inventions where available. The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in concurrence with municipal assemblies should invent steps to better land direction of ecological sites to conserve biodiversity, peculiarly in our wetland countries. There is the demand to name for multi sectorial attack to a sustainable development scheme of the environment which recognizes the engagement of Autochthonal people because of their historical engagement as active participants in the preservation of eco-systems important to the bar of clime alteration. The Meteorological Department should set up improved conditions prediction and information distribution. The authorities, municipal assemblies and non-governmental administrations should assist the autochthonal and hapless population at hazard to efficaciously get by with high temperature extremes and fickle rainfall forms. This can be done by supplying strategies to supply places with better insularity and aeration, against utmost heat and cold conditions every bit good as offer other building betterments. The Environmental Protection Council should implement ordinances on waste disposal. The Ghana Health Service should be active in the proviso of timely wellness support for susceptible people. Banks and NGOs should provide for and beef up concerted establishments to let hapless land-dwellers, fishermen and market adult females to portion the costs associated with market engagement. The Ministry of Energy should hasten and regulate the proviso of domestic gas. Answer: Introduction Garbuio, M., Lovallo, D., Ketenciouglu., E (2013) Behavioural Economics and Strategic Decision Making, in Thomas, C Shughart, W (eds) The Oxford Handbook of Managerial Economics, Oxford The article has clearly discussed how strategy making for a particular project is conducted in the modern era upon a set of principles. The principles are mainly based on the most discussed techniques that have been said to be in trend among the executives and the other officials in the upper designations. They remain mainly based on the decisions which are adopted by the company usually on the behalf of the owners. This is indeed believed by me to be a very good step as the higher officials are mostly incorporated within the main workforce and work culture o a higher degree than the owners. Previously the strategy making in the twentieth century were mainly based on the relationship shared by the strategy making models and the economic theory. This mainly was based on the traditional assumptions of the economic theory that mainly contributed the forming of the early evolution strategic theories, analytical tools and also different frameworks. However, the main issue was that it mainly lacked proper predictions and the assumptions which are very important to assess the results of the strategic theory that needed to be evaluated for the predictions had no way to confirm the data.. This criterion has been clearly discussed in the articles which have effectively brought out the main concerns with that of the early methods of strategy making based on economic theories. Just making prediction based on the rationality is not accepted by the recent day executives. Therefore behavioral assumptions have come to the rescue. New approaches of the behavioral objectives like the behavioral economics, behavioral finance and behavioral corporate finance, its study thoroughly and followed by their application in the strategy making have been believed to find out the best results [1]. The strategy makers have mainly based their analysis on the three important characteristics which are indeed very important in the strategy making which are based on the market entry and exit in mergers and acquisitions The first involves the decisions to be not only rare and complex and even absorb a large portions of the resources of the company. Moreover the decisions which are taken take a lot of time because this decisions need to evaluate the cist and benefits associated with the strategy and also to seek for managerial consensus. The third mainly concerns the feedback mainly in the terms of profits and losses which are realized and therefore gets delayed and thereby becomes difficult to identify it as the cause and effective mechanisms. Non standard preferences help the executives to evaluate long term investments. They are also believed to be underinvest in long term investments and also explore new opportunities. They have also developed a habit of asking more when selling rather higher to those which they would have paid if they were the buyers. Distortion of internalization strategies, preferring adjacent over domestic markets and others are some of the initiatives should be taken. Nonstandard beliefs also play an important role in three different aspects handled by the executives like the first being internal situation of the company, the external situation of the company and thirdly their tendency to overweigh internal causes success and external causes of failures resulting in decisions which are distorted. Moreover they also follow the heuristics and biases while decision making that helps them to analyze the weakness and strengths of the organizational along with the external factors and thereby take decisions in strategy making. Thereby by providing different types of such tactics in behavioral economics and behavioral finance, strategies can be put forward for an organization. Shields, J.,Shelleman, J (2015) Integrating Sustainability into SME strategy, Journal of Small Business, Vol.25, No.2, pp.59-75. The paper mainly focuses on incorporating a number of sustainability considerations in case of the different small and medium enterprises called the SMEs. O feel that indeed it is a very noble prospective for the companies which have about 20 members in them and thereby can see high levels of success. The paper has shown that how a flexible structure of framework can be incorporated in the various sectors of the SMEs so that they can integrate sustainable development in their company structure. Many companies have been observed to lack the awareness of the benefits of addressing sustainability and therefore it has been seen that a proper SWOT analysis helps such companies. The paper had rightly focused on an important issue that the recent day SMEs face and therefore this article have been found to help a large number of companies to guide them with right direction. This article had also helped to act as a tool that will help the companies to analyze various issues in terms of strength and weaknesses and thereby help in analyzing and proper handling the threats faced by the companies in implementation of the new techniques to develop sustainability. I have seen in many case studies that a proper SWOT analysis from time to time helps in modifying the techniques and thereby implement results. I have seen that the SWOTS have been excessively useful because the SWOT system mainly helps in analyzing issues in those companies where the SMEs have limited resources. Over the years not only small companies, but also different big companies have taken the resort of SWOT that had helped them to excel in their fields. The checklist provided by them helps to provide a matrix which helps the SMEs to identify the issue that act as barriers for strategic sustainability implementation and thereby help the companies to seek then to help in optimizing the congruence between the internal capabilities and external cells in the matrix[2]. This helps in examining the current status of the company and the various potential that it requires to meet the competitive demand. Researchers over the years have also made SWOT an important tool for any business student to learn business of different companies and hence its authenticity as a tool can never come under suspicion. When the SME would find that they possess much strength after a SWOT analysis, they readily become proactive in improving sustainability performance. This help to provide better understanding of the stakeholder and thereby would help to understand the preferences of the customers. Here the strengths that they possess will be converted by them to further development of the capability of the company. This will then be logically analyzed which will be followed by enthusiasm to achieve the benefits of improved sustainability and its performance. This may include cost reduction, brand enhancement, risk reduction and others. Hence one can find here how the first criteria of SWOT that is strength can rightly help SMEs to identify their potential which they can venture and develop more in future When the SME finds that the company has lots of weaknesses instead of strength, the company should take immediate actions and face the strategic imperative. They should immediately the action to mitigate the different weaknesses through a variety of steps which would in turn help the companies to develop internal capabilities that mainly address the sustainability. Here, the second criteria of SWOT called the Weakness are rightly described which helps SME to be careful enough and introduce interventions to handle such weaknesses to achieve their mission fast. Not only this, several other factors also needs to be assessed by the company and identify issues in company capabilities, stakeholder preferences and also a number of environmental trends which can be described in forms of threats and opportunities that the SME harbor. However it is very important to avoid the parallel organization concept for sustainability with lesser priority that tends to analyze when times are tough. In this way one can apply the evaluation of the SWOT analysis in developing the sustainability development. I have seen that the Sustainability SWOT helps to give attentions to the draw attention towards the stakeholder and also helps to point any concerns that may be treated as sustainability implication and can affect the entire business. In this way over time it will become incorporated in the main business strategy as its sustainability strategy and thereby would help to overcome issues. I believe that the SME which gives importance to sustainability management with correct researches through SWOT will perform better achieving a higher productivity than those which fail to do so. It had become dry and hard; the challenges of starting a new life in America and raising a teenage daughter wore down its original vibrant color. She had once aspired to mold it into fascinating things. She once told me she wanted to be a flight attendant, traveling the world with a single suitcase and a silk scarf tied around her neck. Instead she was an obedient daughter and married my father to begin a family (that, and she did not meet the height requirement for flight attendants). Eventually, my mother left her shapeless Play-Doh in the corner of the kitchen counter. She continued to encourage me to be my best, so that I could have the opportunities she never even imagined. But for her, the light at the end of the tunnel seemed to run on only two AA batteries and was getting dimmer as its juices ran out. I toiled away at schoolwork and smashed tennis balls as hard as I could on the court. I lent a hand in community work at the local theatre and in tutoring. I was hugged in a circle of close friends who shared our happiness and aspirations. And through all this, my mother would continue to wave to me as I ran away farther towards my goals, encouraging me while her own life lay stagnant. A stereotypical busy student, I sat eating instant ramen noodles one day while studying for my approaching quiz on the American political culture. I looked away from my textbook for a minute and caught a few words on the cover of my ramen bowlââ¬âsomething that is common knowledge to most people and therefore usually ignored. I promptly stopped what I was doing and looked around me. The clutter of textbooks and loose paper that drowned my field of vision and the calendar tacked onto the wall in front of me made me realize that I was going to college soon. For everything that my mother had done for me, from dropping her jaw in ecstasy whenever I conquered a major exam to holding me tightly whenever I didnââ¬â¢t, I never really paid her back. So, before I was to continue developing myself as a person and embarking for college to chase after my future, I had to push my motherââ¬â¢s life forward the way she saved mine. First, I needed to run to the convenience store down the s treet that sold AA batteries in packs of eight. Then, I needed to grab the forgotten, dried up Play-Doh out of the corner of the kitchen counter and press it into my motherââ¬â¢s palm, all the while pointing out the big block letters on my ramen bowl: ââ¬Å"JUST ADD WATER.â⬠Kristie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604712366639719036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251640022113381386.post-75473827136085865762019-11-25T22:58:00.001-08:002019-11-25T22:58:03.519-08:00Lowering the drinking age essaysLowering the drinking age essays Since the increase of the drinking age to 21 has taken effect in New York state, the argument for lowering that limit has been heated. The current age for the consumption of alcohol in the United States is 21 ("Consequences"). Just as it is stated in the following quote, age limits for minors are inconsistent. " Why is it that 18 year old U.S. citizens can legally obtain a driver's license, register to vote, be forced into jury duty or a draft, can be tried as an adult and even put to death, but cannot buy and consume alcoholic beverages?"("Drinking"). The following quote deals specifically with the problem of underage drinking. "88% of drinking drivers aged 16-20 who where involved in fatal crashes in 1993 were determined to have CAUSED the crash" ("Consequences"). Logically, if parents could teach young adults the responsibilities of alcohol at a younger age, then this frightening statistic would probably be cut in half. As Jeff Roberts* put it in his interview, " I believe that one of the factors that drives young adults to drinking, if not the biggest reason, is that it is illegal. That is where the peer pressure and the glamour of it all comes in. Young adults see the older adults handling alcohol and say well I want to act older so I can do that too. It also makes the young adult feel dangerous and alive. They are getting away with something that is illegal." It is conceivable that if a parent were given the chance to teach his or her child the responsibilities of drinking at a younger age, that child may grow up understanding and respecting the responsibilities of drinking ("Drinking"). Fasier* responded "I am a firm believer in the idea. Before the collection of the information, consents should be taken from the clients and they should be informed about the reasons for the interviews (Mealer & Jones, 2014). According to the Privacy Act, an individualââ¬â¢s consent is required before collecting any information ("Privacy law| Office of the Australian Information Commissioner - OAIC", 2018). à All the pros and the cons of the interview and the reason behind the conduction of the interview should be informed off. Several industry analysts and marketing scholars have affirmed the aforementioned, arguing that with very few exceptions, car manufacturers look towards the global market, identify segments therein and seek to create a niche for themselves within that expansive, borderless market (Dickson-Simpson, 2007; Schweinsberg et al., 2007; Van Acker and Uludag, 2007). It is a globalised industry due to the universal nature of its product, the fact that not all countries have a domestic automobile manufacturing industry, and that variant and divergent consumer cost, design and quality requirements cannot be satisfied by a limited number of manufactures (Dickson-Simpson, 2007; Schweinsberg et al., 2007; Van Acker and Uludag, 2007). In other words, the very nature of the industry, product, market trends and consumer demands have determined this as a global and globalised industry. Consequently, being a global industry, the su rvival of firms within is dependant upon the accurate identification of the industry's threats and opportunities and the extent to which a company's operations are, themselves, globalised. The imperatives of Daimler Chrysler's evolving into a truly global automobile manufacturer may be established through a detailed industry analysis using Porter's Five Forces. Proceeding first with the factor of rivalry, one finds that within the context of this industry rivalry is extremely high and is intensifying as a direct outcome to the formation of horizontal alliances between budget and high-end manufacturers for the explicit purpose of cutting down on costs. Not only is rivalry intense but it is intensifying due to the emergence, not only of new industry players but of alliances which may be identified as a bid by smaller firms to become market leaders. For example, Fiat is allying itself with Tata, an Indian automobile manufacturer, fir the explicit purpose of supplying developing markets with the much demanded cheap/economy automobiles. Similarly, GM is forming an alliance with Daewoo for the production of an economic Chevrolet model in South Korea. The implication here is that even in the absence of direct mergers and takeovers, manufactures are teaming up for the design and manufacture of models as would expand their existing market shares in particular automobile market segments. As one looks towards Daimler, one finds that it has not, in its marriage with Chrysler, embraced the imperatives of globalisation for the purpose of maximising its competitive edge. Chrysler is not a manufacturer of budget automobiles and its production costs are high. It is, furthermore, just as the case with Daimler, centred in an industrialised market. This means that the aforementioned marriage has not expanded Daimler's global market presence and has certainly not allowed it to cut down on production costs and to venture into different segments of the automobile market. In other words, whereas competitors are forming alliances which facilitate the realisation of the latter mentioned goal, thereby giving them a competitive advantage over rivals, Daimler has not. Within the context of the stated, it falls short of being a global company, despite its presence in the global market place. As regards the second of Porter's Five Forces, the global nature of the industry has made the threat Kristie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604712366639719036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251640022113381386.post-82294283543649349342019-11-19T00:24:00.001-08:002019-11-19T00:24:02.943-08:00World war 1 poetry Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsWorld war 1 poetry - Essay Example Historical context is a compelling factor in a poem. Two poetic works may be dealing with the same issue or subject but these may differ when it comes to handling because these are based on different historical context. This is a fact that is very obvious when the poems of the early years and those of the later period of World War I are compared. During the early stage, the poems were still filled with idealism, particularly one that centers on the necessity of the war. The early World War I poems did recognize the reality of death but it also handled this subject in a very positive manner. A clear example of such poem is Charles Sorleyââ¬â¢s All the Hills and Vales Along which has lines that say ââ¬Å"sow your gladness for earthââ¬â¢s reaping / sow you may be glad, through sleeping / strew your gladness on earthââ¬â¢s bed / so be merry, so be deadâ⬠(257). However, the poems written during the later years of the war no longer glorify death and sufferings as noble sacr ifices in a necessary and just war. Instead, what are highlighted in the said poems are the physical and emotional pains suffered by the combatants as they continue fighting a war they gradually came to misunderstand. Death is no longer portrayed in heroic terms but rather as a matter of fact in war. An example of this is The Leveller, which is written by Robert Graves. Those who write about wars best are the very people who are engaged in it. In this regard, it is the men fighting in the front who can describe most accurately the normal human reaction to combat actions. Being soldiers themselves, the poets took a more introspective approach to the war they are fighting. Those who wrote poems at the early period of World War I, when death and destruction were not yet worse focused on glorifying the war itself. The poems were most calls to action and justifications of their respective countryââ¬â¢s participation in the war. The message of lines like ââ¬Å"In our heart of hearts b elieving / Victory crowns the just, / And that braggarts must / Surely bite the dust, / Press we to the field ungrieving, / In our heart of hearts believing / Victory crowns the justâ⬠from the poem Men Who March Away (Hardy) were common. Apparently, the lines dealt with the issue of death but if this is not glorified as a heroic inevitability, it is associated with the fate of the enemy. However, as the bloody fighting lasted for years and as both sides started to realize that the war only brought about pain and suffering, the poems too began to focus on death and destruction and treating these in ways less than noble. However, while it may be true that the focus of the poems display the differences in perspectives regarding the justness and nobleness of the war as it developed, most of these points out to the inevitability of death and destruction. The poems written in the early years also pointed out that death is inevitable but these also presented death as a necessity. Fro m the perspectives of the Allies, from which side the poets belong, dying in the fight is heroic which accounts for the encouraging lines ââ¬Å"So sing with joyful breath, / For why, you are going to deathâ⬠(Sorley). At the early stage of the war, when the soldiers were themselves bombarded with exhortations to fight valiantly and the public awash with propaganda on the justness of participating in it, the poems too reflected the general sentiment. These also painted the war positively, making it noble Kristie Murphyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604712366639719036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1251640022113381386.post-7260067449241842492019-11-16T12:56:00.001-08:002019-11-16T12:56:04.739-08:00Process Capability Essay Example for Free Process Capability Essay Process capability studies determine whether a process is unstable, investigate any sources of instability, determine their causes, and take action to resolve such sources of instability. After all sources of instability have been resolved in a process, the natural behavior of the process is called its process capability. Process capability compares the output of a process (called ââ¬Å"Voice of the Processâ⬠) with the customerââ¬â¢s specification limits for the outputs (called ââ¬Å"Voice of the Customerâ⬠). A process must be stable (have an established process capability) before it can be improved. Consequently, a process capability study must be successfully completed before a process improvement study can have any chance for success. Process improvement studies follow the Deming cycle of Plan, Do, Study, Act. First, managers construct a plan to decrease the difference between customer needs (Voice of the Customer) and process performance (Voice of the Process). Recall, that a plan is an intention to move from an existing method or flowchart to a revised method or flowchart by incorporating one or more change concepts. Second, they test the revised flowchartââ¬â¢s (Plan) viability using a planned experiment (Do). Third, they collect data and study the results of the planned experiment to determine if the plan (revised flowchart) will decrease the difference between customer needs and process performance (Study). Fourth, if the data collected about the revised flowchart show if the plan will achieve its objective(s). Finally, the revised flowchart is standardized through best practices and training (Act); and the managers responsible for the plan return to the Plan phase of the Deming cycle to find further revisions to the flowchart that will further reduce the difference between customer needs and process performance. If the data collected about the plan show that the plan will not achieve its objective(s), the managers responsible for the plan return to the Plan phase of the Deming cycle to find a different revision to the flowchart that will reduce the difference between customer needs and process performance. Hence, the Deming cycle follows a never-ending path of process and quality improvement. This chapter is divided into four sections: specifications, process capability studies, process improvement studies, and quality improvement stories. The quality improvement story is an effective format for quality management practitioners to present process capability and process improvement studies to management. 11.2 Specifications (Voice of the Customer) and Created Dimensions Specifications fall into two broad categories: performance specifications and technical specifications. 11.2.1 Performance Specifications Performance specifications address a customerââ¬â¢s needs or wants. An example of a performance specification can be seen in restaurants rated by the Red Michelin Guide. The customers of these restaurants set their performance specifications as ââ¬Å"a perfect dining experience.â⬠Perfection is measured in terms of the synergistic experience created by the interaction of food, service, ambience and price. The Red Michelin Guide rates restaurants on a one to three star scale. Only the best restaurants in the world receive Michelin stars. A restaurant receives one Michelin star for consistently serving very good food in a good setting, but it is not considered worthy of a special traveling effort. A restaurant receives two Michelin stars for consistently serving excellent food, including specialties and wines of choice in a great setting. The restaurant is worth a detour from oneââ¬â¢s existing travel itinerary. A restaurant receives three Michelin stars for serving excellent food and great wine, with impeccable and elegant service and ambience. The restaurant is one of the best restaurants in the world and is worth a special trip. All starred restaurants have a high average level of quality with very little variation around the average. A three star Michelin chef is an artist; it is as if Picasso was painting for your pleasure. Three star Michelin restaurants provide performance specifications. They guarantee satisfaction at the point of delivery. Nothing short of perfection is acceptable. 11.2.2 Technical Specifications Technical specifications describe the desired values of quality characteristics at delivery. There are three types of technical specifications: individual unit specifications; acceptable quality level (AQL) specifications; and distribution specifications. Individual Unit Specifications. Individual unit specifications state a boundary (upper or lower specification limit), or boundaries (both upper and lower specification limits), that apply to individual units of a product or service. An individual unit of product or service is considered to conform to a specification if it is on or inside the boundary or boundaries; this is the goal post view of quality. Individual unit specifications are made up of two parts, which together form a third part. The first part of an individual unit specification is the nominal value. This is the desired value for process performance mandated by the customers needs. Ideally, if all quality characteristics were at nominal, products and services would perform as expected over their life cycle. The second part of an individual unit specification is a tolerance. A tolerance is an allowable departure from a nominal value established by design engineers that is deemed non-harmful to the functioning of the product or service over its life cycle. Tolerances are added and/or subtracted from nominal values. The third part of an individual unit specification is a specification limit, or the boundaries created by adding and/or subtracting tolerances from a nominal value. It is possible to have two-sided specification limits: USL = Nominal + Tolerance LSL = Nominal Tolerance where USL is the upper specification limit and LSL is the lower specification limit; or one-sided specification limits (i.e., either USL or LSL only). A nominal value and specification limits form the Voice of the Customer. An example of an individual unit specification and its three parts can be seen in the specification for the case hardness depth of a camshaft. A camshaft is considered to be conforming with respect to case hardness depth if each individual unit is between 7.0 mm à ± 3.5 mm (or LSL = 3.5 to USL = 10.5 mm). The nominal value in that specification is 7.0 mm; the two-sided tolerance is 3.5 mm; the lower specification limit is 3.5 mm (7.0 mm 3.5 mm); and the upper specification limit is 10.5 mm (7.0 mm + 3.5 mm). From our earlier discussion of the philosophy of continuous reduction of variation (i.e., the Taguchi Loss Function), we saw that the goal of modern management should not be 100 percent conformance to specifications (Zero Defects), but the never-ending reduction of process variation within specification limits so that all products/services are as close to nominal as possible, absent capital investment. Specified tolerances become increasingly irrelevant as process variation is reduced so that the processs output is well within specification limits. Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) Specifications. Acceptable quality level (AQL) specifications state a requirement that must be met by most individual units of product or service, but allow a certain proportion of the units to exceed the requirements. For example, cam shafts shall be acceptable if no more than 3 percent of the units exceed the specification limits of 3.5 and 10.5 mm. This type of specification limit is frequently referred to as an Acceptable Quality Level. AQL specifications are much like individual unit specifications, except they have a unique negative feature: they formally support the production of a certain percentage of defective product or service. Distribution Specifications. Distribution specifications define an acceptable distribution for each product or service quality characteristic. In an analytic study, a distribution is defined in terms of its mean, standard deviation, and shape. However, from the Empirical Rule discussed in Chapter 5, it is not necessary to make any assumptions about the shape of the distribution. That is, virtually all data from a stable process will fall between the mean plus or minus three standard deviations. As an example of a distribution specification, the case hardness depth of a camshaft shall be stable with an average depth of 7.0 mm and a standard deviation not to exceed 1.167 mm. In other words, individual units shall be distributed around the average with a dispersion not to exceed 3.50 mm on either side of the average since for a stable process, virtually all of the output will be within three standard deviations on either side of the mean [7.0 mm à ± 3(1.167 mm) = 7.0 mm à ± 3.50 mm = 3.50 to 10.50 mm]. The mean and standard deviation are simply directional goals for management when using distribution specifications. Management must use statistical methods to move the process average toward the nominal value of 7.0 mm and to decrease the process standard deviation as far below 1.167 mm as possible. Distribution requirements are stated in the language of the process and promote the never-ending improvement of a process. Distinguishing between Performance Specifications and Technical Specifications. Performance specifications are not commonly used in business; instead, technical specifications are used. Unfortunately, this can cause major problems because technical specifications may not produce the performance desired by a customer. As an example, consider a hospital that serves medium (versus rare or well-done) steak to patients who select steak for dinner [see Camp, 1986]. The performance desired is patient satisfaction within nutritional guidelines. But performance specifications are not used. Instead, a technical specification of five ounces of steak is substituted; it is assumed they are equivalent. Although I have a choice whether or not I want to deal with these people, I do not have a choice at my place of employment. While working at 9 Ball Joe, a coffee/billiards hall, I am forced to interact with mainly four groups of people; from rowdy, revolting children and useless, pitiable teens, to scheming schoolgirls and bothersome regulars, a line of work seeming so simple is anything but. First and foremost, I am a 19 year-old college student who places value in any chance I get for peace and quiet, thus, babysitting is not my profession of choice. However, on most weekend nights 9 Ball Joe is infested with children between the ages 12-16. They are loud, obnoxious, and in some situations, disrespectful. Unfortunately for me, they have strength in numbers. Because most of them are too young to drive, they often come piled in a van driven by one of their parents. Before entering the building, they feel it is necessary to ââ¬Å"hang out,â⬠or loiter in the parking lot for at least ten minutes, leaving a trail of litter behind. Once in the building, they huddle in a large mass near the entrance door causing messy customer traffic-jams. Because young children are commonly indecisive, fifteen minutes can pass before any decision is made on whether to shoot pool, or to purchase drinks. If they do decide to get drinks, they spend as little as possible (a one drink minimum is policy). Jones Sodas seem to be the beverage of choice since they are cheap, colorful, and sweet. Having to deal with their loud voices and sugar-high theatrics all night is only the beginning of my torture. I am continually left with scads of dishes to clean up after they leave even though our signs clearly read: PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN DISHES. The next breed of 9 Ball-goers consists of 20 year-old high school dropouts who still live with their parents and have excessive drinking problems. Unfortunately, age is not an indicator of maturity. These individuals are worse than youngsters half their age. I often wonder how they make enough money to feed their alcohol and cigarette addiction as well as pay for their pool and drinks.
